Topic: Switch Charger and Dock Make High Pitched Whinning Noise

Hello,
I recently purchased a brand new Nintendo Switch. It's a great system but I noticed a high pitched but quiet whining noise coming from both the ac adapter as well as the dock. The ac adapter also makes this noise sometimes when it's plugged directly into the switch while in handheld mode. I've done some research and the noise sounds like it could be "coil whine". I'm just wondering, is it normal for the adapter and dock to be making this noise? Or should it be dead silent?

I've had the Switch since launch, and with all my game news consumption, I've never heard of a whine sound come from a dock & adapter. Sometimes the Switch fan hits a strangely loud turbo mode after powering up, but your description sounds different. I can't hear anything from my adapter. If a game is loaded, the fan is usually on. I think the fan is a little louder while docked than handheld. Anyway, maybe someone else here will chime in on the issue.

Ever since I called Ninendo's support line and had very positive experiences, calling Nintendo is my preferred option before I ask here. But it is late, so I don't blame you for asking here. Even though you're in Canada, I think you call Nintendo of America in Seattle, Washington like we do? 800-255-3700. The same number is in the front of the Switch manual.

here's the support contact page. If i read it right, they may have 24hr support, not sure how limited off hours.

@Markgov Depending on how long ago you got it you should take it back to where you bought it and do a warranty exchange. If also they should let you transfer your data from the old one to the replacement before you exchange so you don't loose anything. So go back to where you bought it to get your warranty exchange.
