One of the major flaws with the Switch is its design for cooling, specifically the dock. The air intake vents are blocked when playing docked. So it's generally not a good idea to play a graphically demanding game for more than an hour while docked (Zelda BotW, Wolfenstein II, etc). It's guaranteed to cause your Switch to warp from the heat.
@Magician
Non of the vents are blocked. You can check yourself, there are holes on the back of the dock right where the vents are.
All of which lead to an enclosure for the hdmi input, power input, and a usb port.
The point is, the system has poor airflow when docked.
The thousands of images of cracked Switch cases across social media are proof of that.
You mean the enclosure that has more venting space and dissipation area? I play mine 85% of the time in the dock, sometimes for hours at a time. No cracks.

Had my Switch since launch, no, it is not guaranteed to happen. And a few dozen pictures online don't prove otherwise when the Switch has sold millions of units and only a handful of people have reported problems. There is a small chance of issues yes, the pictures do prove that. But there is a small chance of defects in any purchase.

Wow thousands but yet we hear a few dozens and those cracked were from the User caused not a Nintendo fault. So stop spouting falsehood that you can't backup. It starting to look bad on your snake oil sales. I had my NSW hours on the dock BoTW and no issues so your story doesn't add up.
Remember, guys: it's the internet in the 21st century. If ONE person out of millions types "loudly" enough, it's an issue. Statistics teachers around the world: we no longer have use for you.

So that’s what that tapping noise is?
True story; I intentionally got a 29 for the year in high school ProbStat to show me teacher that it’s statistically possible.

How do we explain the inconsistencies? I have zero issues of warping with the dock or the Switch itself. Launch editions for both.
Apparently some of these case cracking issues were caused by rough handling when people were playing their game with the joycons attached. Maybe Nintendo should have designed the switch with a light alloy case. It would have made it a lot more durable for the hamfisted players.

Not a guarantee to cause it to warp. I’ve played Zelda, Doom, NBA 2K18 and Wolfenstein for hours docked. Mine is fine.

Whereas mine has a couple of hairline cracks around the screw under the power button. It's rarely taken out of the dock, and is treated with care because I don't fancy paying to have it fixed.
@shaneoh and yet no other person can verify your story. I checked mine many times leaving it powered on and off in the dock and only hair line crack are my grey hair. As no one can even document your activity this is purely user caused not hardware.

Amazing, I have no documentation for an issue I was unaware of, right I'll start taking 24/7 videos of all electronic devices I buy in the future. Funny thing is the link posted above is all the evidence I need that there is an existing issue. If Nintendo refuse to repair it for free, I just need to go to consumer affairs with the link, which will show them that there is an existing issue with some units.
Consumer rights, gotta love 'em. Sorry, you're a yank, so I'll explain. Consumer rights are there to prevent businesses from screwing over customers. It's why Steam now provide refunds.
