I did every nook and cranny in the first world last night and did the 1st castle. Such a beautiful and charming game. I'm trying to savor it so I probably won't do more than 1 world a day.
@FishyS
So there is No Game Over even when I have Zero multiple lives on the left screen ?
I just made a new save file, played a few levels, and killed myself to test this. For one second it does say 'game over' but then you re-appear right where you were before and Prince Florian gives you some 1-ups and encouraging words. You lose no progress. I played the bonus stage which only appears if you game over and it basically just throws coins all over you. 😝 So yeah, even though it briefly says the words game over I definitely wouldn't count it as a game over in any real way.
"If you want to make the game easier, you can play as either Nabbit or Yoshi. If you pick these characters you won't take any damage, but you also won't transform with power-ups. No Elephant Nabbit or Yoshi unfortunately!
However that's not a bad trade-off for making the game much easier, so if you really don't want any challenge you can pick these characters and explore without having to worry about taking damage.
Yoshi will also be able to flutter jump, giving you extra height when jumping, and even eat objects and spit them back out at enemies. Nabbit doesn't have those special abilities but he won't take any damage just like Yoshi."
@Yydeckard Honestly, the accessibility/difficulty options whether for kids or anyone else are amazing in this game.
The two different easier characters with different abilities.
You can go into online mode at any time and play normally but get hints, extra power-ups, and even mid-level resurrections by interacting with other players.
You can pick and choose badges to make a given level much easier.
You can straight-up skip most of the harder levels since you don't need to beat every level to proceed.
The fact that they made all these options feel fun and individualized rather than sticking them all in 'easy mode' is great.
I played through most of the first world with my family yesterday, it's been a fantastic time so far! The level designs have been super fun, and I love the music as well. I really wanna highlight the controls as well, as they feel amazing. Might be the best-feeling Mario game I've played. I'll have to give it more time, though. There's just a certain weight to it that feels so responsive.
Also, I was considering turning the talking flowers off but I changed their voice lines to Japanese instead; much better choice!

On average, how long does a world seem to take, assuming you go after most or all collectibles?
The worlds vary in size somewhat and there are also a bunch of levels in-between worlds as you travel from one world to another.
Judging by speed runs, you can 100% the whole game in a few hours, but for a normal person I think it's fair to say you could go through a world and get all the collectables in a couple hours or longer depending how leisurely you play.
For what it's worth howlongtobeat.com estimates it takes 17-20 hours to 100% the game. Granted, that is based on professional reviewers and crazy people who 100%-ed the game less than 2 days in...
There is a ton of replayability in this game so personally I've been messing around and experimenting and playing slower. Even so, I'm 100% in the first 4 worlds. How long have I played in the last two days? Not totally positive, but too long. 😝
Also he heals with power ups and would still count as easy mode. Then the game would truly be 11/10
They gave Yoshi his abilities from New smbu rather than the actual Yoshi games which is fair.
I understand why they kept character abilities simple given all the badges, but I agree it would have been fun if there was a little more variety in the 'easy mode' characters.
I really hope this game gets DLC similar to the DLC built into nsmbu deluxe; the existing levels are great but some new modes and characters and special challenges would be really fun.
The only negative I have on the game so far is that there is only one save file per account. This means I can't experiment with online in my second save file I've been using since that is forced to be attached to a secondary account which doesn't have NSO.
It's been years since I've been this immediately
addicted to a game or played anything I would consider this polished. Despite the minor negatives, this is an amazing game so I get why you phrased that as 'not quite 11/10' 😝
So far I've put about two hours into the game and am in the first world still. Namely because I'm trying to be...well, not a completionist, but I want to try to get all the Wonder Seeds and big purple coins in a level before moving on. I'm having a blast with the game, and the online mode is fun too. Surprisingly, the talking flowers haven't driven me crazy in English yet.

Question, where is the best place for easy farming multiple lives ?
There is a Koopa in level 3 you can trap between 2 pipes and jump on over and over to get 1-ups. I just tried on my second save file. It is a little bit tricky but once I got it set up I got 50 1-ups in 2 minutes before I messed up.
You can also just buy 1-ups with purple flower coins at the shop - only 20 flower coins for 5 1-ups. There are plenty of levels you can replay in a minute or two to get 10 or more flower coins, so they're not hard to farm if you need them.
Note that I ended up getting 50+ lives just playing normally and also ended up with literally thousands of flower coins which I mostly used to buy silly collectables but 400 would have gotten me 99 lives instead if I had needed.
You can go into online mode at any time and play normally but get hints, extra power-ups, and even mid-level resurrections by interacting with other players.
The odd thing is that I immediately turned the online mode on and didn't even think of it as an "easy mode". I mean sure, it most definitely is. If you fail at a section then you can just move to another player and be revived. There's even a level that basically requires you to get the wonder seed right at the start but I missed it. I somehow managed to limp through the majority of the stage without triggering it. But with the exception of those kinds of scenarios that occasionally come up, it's basically just the same as playing with someone else locally
Plus it's kinda nice co-operating with other players on the same level. Like when you all get to the end of a level at the same time and spam the emotes. Or you are all kinda following each other through a bit of a tricky section and exchanging revives with each other. It's basically like the co-operative multiplayer mode in Mario Maker 2. Easier? Sure. But you gain a lot out of being able to share the level with other players
