Topic: Stuttering in Zelda BotW

So any time I'm in an area with say lots of trees or it starts raining, the screen will start stuttering and lagging. This happens heavily in korok forest. This doesn't happen in undocked mode and I've tried it on multiple screens. I've seen this talked about but the issue is tedious to find on google. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Strange — Did you patch the game? Even still, undocked mode had better performance from what I remember.

@JTMnM Sorry I meant that this happens in docked mode. Do you mean the DLC expansion pass. The stuttering happened as soon as I got the system a week after launch so I'm not sure it would help.

Nintendo released many patches to optimize performance. I rarely run into stutter unless in chaotic fights. Korok Forest might still have issues. It's been a while since I played BotW.

Stutters happen in the game from time to time. I am sure Zelda is pushing the Switch to it's limits at times. The stuttering is not nearly as bad as it was when the game first launched.

@Lethal I think the performance is more down to the game not being built with the Switch in mind in the first place. Same reason there's no HD rumble. A subsequent 3D Zelda will probably be more well-optimized for the platform.

Hmm, never encountered rain or any weather effects (apart from the day and night cycle) in the Korok Forest. I assumed it just changes to "foggy lost woods" weather everytime.

Keep playing, it is there. It is there in the same locations for pretty much everyone.

It's normal. However, if it's actually making it difficult to even play the game, there's something wrong there.

I don't know how else to say this but it's incredibly terrible. As soon as I entered the lost woods I became so entranced and was vexed by the air of mystery in that place, but then it stuttered and it ruined everything for me and I wanted to break my controller. I've seen it being talked about on other forums and some people say they have no problem what so ever, while some explain the same exact problem. It's something that shouldn't happen, it's completely unacceptable for this happen at all.

@JTMnM By patches do you mean software update? It says I'm using the latest version of this software.

I'm just going to send it back. I found out my files can be saved if they have to give me a new one.

Well Korok forest is notorious for quite bad fps stutters, always was, even after the patches. Easily the worst area.

Stutters do happen in other places also, but it's much better now. Before the patches it started stuttering as soon as there was grass, not anymore.

I think it's because the game was designed for the Wii U and then ported over to the Switch.

Hmm.. well that makes sense.
