Wow, this game is fantastic and super polished. It feels like a quality game that deserves to be on the Nintendo platform.

It does. It absolutely does. I kind of wanted to say that in my post earlier, but I just felt hesitant about a making such a bold comparison. But the honest truth is that is exactly the thought that was running through my mind every minute I was playing it. This game could pass as a title worthy of a physical release... easily. It's seriously legit.

Just finished the game. I loved it. I haven't touched Metroid since I started SteamWorld Dig 2. Dig 2 is a better game in my opinion and it seems I'm not the only one who thinks so.
Took me almost 10 hours to beat. I could've finished it in less time but I was collecting a lot of stuff along the way. I'm 94% done. Now I just need to find 2 artifacts and 30 or so upgrade gears to unlock the thing the devs hinted at.
@Late You only need all artifacts to unlock the secret. If there is something else unlocked for getting everything, I haven't figured out what it is
Game is a blast, best eShop game so far!
@otterskateboard Good to know. Now that I think about it, I'm actually not sure how many gears there are. I just assume there are enough to have every ability enabled at once.
A quick question for anyone who's played both - is Steamworld Dig 2 better than Axiom Verge?
I've probably not got the time over the next month to play both and I was holding off for Axiom Verge but I'm now being tempted by SteamWorld Dig 2 instead (with the obvious advantage that I could be playing it tonight).
@StuTwo
I think Dreamworld Dig 2 is better, imo. Best indie I've played in a long time.
It's not better than Metroid Samus Returns though. It's close, but I think people are taking it a bit too far with that one.

@StuTwo I also think it depends on what you want. While SWD2 looks gorgeous and has great gameplay as well Axiom Verge is much more like Metroid. It doesn't look as good as SWD2 but it's every bit as fun as a Metroid game. Both are very good choices and you can't go wrong with either. Now, back to Digging!!

I found the 2 missing artifacts. Now I have all of them and unlocked the thing. The level/puzzle design is really good. You can see every artifact or a breakable spot on your map that leads to the artifact but getting it is sometimes really tricky. I love what they did with the room where you have to avoid the rising lava.
I really want to see this game in Games Done Quick. It felt awesome going through corridors with hookshot as fast as I could and speedrunners can take it to a whole another level. I'd be interested how many bugs they can find since to me it looked like the programming behind the game is really solid. I don't think there are many ways to break the game.
I beat the secret thing and now I'm at 97% completion. I wonder how many cogs there are in total. I'm also missing one blueprint. Below are some thoughts on the end game stuff.
I think the secret challenge thing was a bit too hard compared to everything else. It took me under 10 tries but I spent over 15 minutes in that skill room when I first encountered it thanks to that one wall jump section. I had no idea I could gain such height with wall jumps and I'm still not quite sure how it's done. My success rate is like 15% or so.
Really looking forward to playing this. Need to clear my Switch backlog a little and finish Metroid but will hopefully have time to get involved in the 'this game is great' discussion before Odyssey drops.
They don't need to buy the company but Nintendo should make an exclusivity deal with companies like Image and Form and Yacht Club Games. Just give them a higher cut of the revenue in exchange for keeping their games off any other platforms.
They'd probably get them on board for a fairly low price given that both companies have deliberately targeted Nintendo platforms in the past. It would just be a cheaper way of getting more exclusives.
So I opted for Steamworld Dig 2 and... I can't believe how great it is! I really love it.
I think the thing I like most is that I've played so many Zelda-Metroidvanias over the last 25 years that I feel like I've been educated in how to play those games in a way that's broken them. Basically don't bother exploring or reaching for tantalising items you can see until later in the game because you've probably not got the skills you need.
Steam world Dig 2 has that a bit too but it still feels like it genuinely rewards exploration. I've managed to skip the shortcut tunnels a few times. I even missed a major early (mandatory story) location for hours. I just dug past it and ended up right at the very bottom of the mine.
Yeah, steamworld dig 2 is such a gem. Got it over the weekend and could not put it down, it kept me engaged. Definitely, recommended for those who are interested in adventure platformer thingly, and it's so good as a pick and go game too.
Strangely, I wasn't into steamworld dig 1, I got a little distracted from that one, I guess I should give the first one another run. Besides I need to show some love on the 3DS been spending too much time on my Switch.
I kinda hope Image & Form bring Dig one out at a discounted price on the Switch. I would gladly play it again if say it was $5.
As for this game in almost to the end. C ant be much left to do story wise so I may beat it by tomorrow. So far this has been a wonderful experience. I did take a break to play and beat Golf Story but not because I needed one.
