Now if they could replace the Nintendo E-shop with Steam the console would get access to so many games! First things first merge Nintendo accounts with Steam so if you buy a game on one platform you have bought it for both.
Now with software you could make it that the F1 key translate into the A button etc... to make it easier to convert Steam games for the Nintendo Switch. Now for all games the Nintendo Switch could handle graphically this would be amazing! For those that it cant I suppose you would have to tone down the graphics. You could automatically play games that work with a touch sensitive monitor, with the Nintendo touch screen. Otherwise you would have to create complex software to convert the mouse into touch screen controls.
Toning down Graphics could be as simple as using software to release games with insane specifications on the Switch with lowest possible graphic settings.
Now for example why would you buy a Guild Wars 2 expansion through any medium but Steam, if you could play it on your Switch without having to purchase it again by purchasing it through Steam...
Why would Nintendo replace its own digital store with a PC storefront? It’s like PS4 ditching the PS Store and all the systems they’ve built around it for Steam.... because reasons.
And no, it isn’t as simple as toning down graphics. Switch uses a mobile chipset that is different from the graphics card PC uses. You can’t simply push a button and make games run of it - don’t you think publishers would already have done that got far more games on the platform if they could? It ‘s extra money for them after all.
And there would be blowback from devs and publishers, because they want you to pay when playing on different platforms. If you could access your Steam games from Switch (ignoring my previous paragraph) they would see less money from their games, which would lead them to either increase the price, or restrictions when playing on Steam.
