Topic: Splatoon 2...help a dad out..

Hi,
Just got my son Splatoon 2 for Christmas. I had no idea that in order to play the majority of this game you have to pay a subscription service. I wish I would have known that ahead of time. Anyways, I don’t have an online account for my son yet...but I’ve been messing around with this Splatoon 2 and I understand you have to go to the lobby for online play. When I go there it tells me in order to use it I have to connect to the internet. It gives me a “not cool” or “cool” option. I choose “cool” and it takes the character right back to the plaza without having done anything. The switch is indeed connected to the internet so I’m not sure what’s going on. Is this purely happening because I don’t have an online account? On a secondary question, can I as a parent set up the online account for my son but have me be in control of the payment and authorization stuff? I’m really new to all of this and haven’t followed video games in a really long time. Thanks.

You won't be able to use the Splatoon 2 lobby until you've got an active subscription.

Use a PC/phone to visit the Nintendo Account web pages, where you can start a subscription and read more about parental controls.

@bgaviator there's also a Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app you can use on your smartphone
