Basically those that are in collections. I think publishers would be more willing to release their old games onto the service if you were required to already pay them money for another of their games. Plus the appeal of the NSO is to have the old games as they appeared on the consoles you originally played them on. And the NSO features save states and a rewind feature that other collections or remakes don't have. Fans of playing SNES and NES games on NSO are clamouring for more games, and this is one way of getting more games on to the service. But of course, you still need to pay for the NSO service to access them.
If you own the Street Fighter collection for example, you would unlock the SNES, GB and GBC Street Fighter games and also NES Street Fighter 2010.
If you own the Castlevania collection, you would unlock the SNES, NES and GB Castlevania games, including those that weren't on the collection like SNES Dracula X and GB Legends.
And some remakes or ports of the arcade or NeoGeo games would also unlock titles.
If you own The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on Switch, you would be able to unlock GB and GBC Link's Awakening.
If you own NeoGeo Samurai Shodown, you would unlock SNES and GB Samurai Shodown.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
Honestly, I'd be pleased with something small for owning certain games (ie. Borders, enhancements, etc.)
Your first anything is important; a memory you don't want to forget. That's what makes nostalgia such a fascinating concept. That's why many people enjoy games that have aged well.
That would be so awesome! I'd much rather play the SNES versions of Street Fighter 2 for the nostalgia and additional options like difficulty level, speeds, sound test etc.
Would love it if owning Flashback unlocked the SNES version too. It's just not the same playing the version they released (Amiga I think) without the sound effects and music I know and love. ☹️
I don't think I have anything against this idea on the surface. It's a nice gesture. Can't commit though as it seems targetted to a certain group rather than everyone (if you get me.) The haves and the have nots. I mean, there is nothing stopping these games just being brought to NSO in time anyhoo (Like how long before folk complain they have a human right to unlockable games because they pay a subscription and shouldn't have games locked behind buying other games etc) So, I don't object to the idea (like I said, I think it's cool) but not sure how well it would be recieved generally.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

The main reason why they won't currently is because the collections, remakes and arcade/NeoGeo ports exist, other than a very small amount of games like Excitebike. The publishers want you to buy the those collections, remakes and ports instead of letting us play their games basically for 'free'. Its perfectly reasonable that Capcom are with-holding SNES Street Fighter II from NSO for that reason; and so if my idea happens then Capcom still get paid for their collection. Which is fair.

Or they could bring back the Virtual Console service and allow your games to carry over from 3ds, WiiU and Wii VC. You can have a cheap online service with those games and those that don’t play online won’t be forced to pay for an online service (I can’t justify using the service since I have no internet connection)
Note a phones internet connection in a rural area is not sufficient for it either!
No, I hate the idea of requiring an NSO subscription for that type of functionality.
Such games should be included as a bonus for purchases of recent instalments, yes. For example, I think that the GB/GBC versions of Link’s Awakening should have been included on the cart as a bonus with the remake. Similarly, Pokémon Yellow should have been included with the Let’s Go games, and perhaps Red as an additional bonus for the Pikachu version, and Blue for Eevee.
And really, these games are so ridiculously small that there’s no real reason not to include them. Plus you get a permanent copy of the older games. Hell, in many cases, I can see myself being incentivised more by the old ROMs more so than the current games.
Either way, these old ROMs should be included as part of NSO, but requiring a larger purchase plus a subscription? Bad idea.
A free app that unlocks old ROMs similar to a certain Wii U app (though that only unlocked “moments”) with the use of amiibo would also be welcome in my book (and possibly reskins or alternate versions of classic games).
I'm against the idea. The minute they start charging for these games the entire point of the service is lost. If some publishers refuse to take part and instead want to sell their titles separately more power to them. But that's not what the NSO games are about

This is what I've been saying for years now. It has been unendingly annoying to me that a cool gaming service idea has been tied to Nintendo forcing people to pay for online that isn't remotely improved from when it was free. I hated it when it started, I hate it now, I will hate it for the foreseeable future until it changes (assuming it ever does).
Which is a shame because I think the actual retro gaming service is a great idea, and with some more games and changes could be really awesome. But having it be Nintendo's excuse to justify not improving their online just makes the whole thing feel so much worse than it is.
My is there no boxart for Magical Drop? Yes, a game is a game, but it's sticking out like a sore thumb.
Also, it's not as simple as to copy the game over. You know, the NSO app has a very specific emulator with very specific features, especially online. The roms are not simple dumps. Your "free bonus copy" is a modification and has a little bit of work involved.
Nintendo wouldn't allow such a thing anyway, letting me make countless copies of Secret of Mana on all my friends Switch's just because I have Collection of Mana.
NSO already includes far too many disparate things that not everyone is going to want in combination. $20 a year is decent value if you go online, play the retro games/Tetris/Pac Man, and use cloud saves to sync across multiple consoles. It's just not so good for people who only want one of those things.
On the whole, I'd much rather see free online, free backups and a games subscription service that can sell itself entirely on its own merits. I doubt we will, but tying retro games to specific purchases would only make the existing situation worse.
