Topic: Sol Cresta

A little late here, but I saw the Nintendo Life and Destructoid reviews of the game. Interestingly, NL gave it a 7/10 when it reads fairly negative whilst Destructoid's review gave it an 8/10, whilst fairer, in the conclusion it mentioned that there are issues, but those issues aren't mentioned in the review for some reason. These two reviews are a little too mixed and I have a feeling that it'll land somewhere between these, I'll just have to see when I get the game on Steam on my birthday, then order the Switch physical edition if I think it's worth it. One thing that the Destructoid review does mention is that it's not a shmup made for everyone, and I have a feeling that it's a shmup targeted to older gamers who remember the arcades in the 80s and 90s.

I'll just have to see what I think of it on the 22nd.

So I've been playing the Steam version of Sol Cresta for a week, and I like it. It's not the best Shmup in the whole wide world, but it's worth playing regardless.

It's just a shame that I've heard that the Switch version suffers from frame rate issues due to the game using the Unity Engine that the Switch isn't good at running. Not to mention that the Switch version has a nasty 9 frame delay compared to the 2 frame delay on PCs and 3 frame delay on the PS4. This has made me delay a Limited Run Switch version, though I might order a PS4 version even if I don't play on my PS4 anymore.

My progress is that I've beaten the game in Very Easy and Easy modes. In Normal mode, I need to get better on the Terra level (level 5) as I get my butt handed to me once I reach the Mandler boss as he launches a lot of missiles and boomerangs.

I hope that sometime in the future an update will improve the Switch version framerate and input delay. Plus I am interested in the Dramatic Mode, but I'm not going to get it until there's English VO.

Now I going to wait for Saturday night's live stream where they show off how to score more in the game and get higher on the caravan and score attack leaderboards.
