Am I the only one who's excited to play this love letter to the genre?

I've been playing a good amount of Terra Cresta on the Arcade Archives, and then I have Moon Cresta on Arcade Archives for the PS4. Great Retro shmups! I've been wanting to see more non-bullet hell shooters and this is right up my street! Plus Yuzo Koshiro of Streets of Rage fame is working on the music for the game, the music is going to be banging in this!

Personally, I don't care about that price tag. $40 is a decent price for a love letter to the genre that's being worked on by some of the best talent in the Japanese games industry.

I'm keeping my eye on it, recently I've been wanting to play more of those types of games, some time ago I got Raiden IV on Steam, eventually got V on Switch, and IV again on that system. (I prefer 5 mainly because of the weapons, lol) Just recently I got into Crimzon Clover which is just insanity, but I love it. xD

Anyways yeah, this is Platinum right? Curious to see how this will go, some of their games tends to be chaos which is what I like. lol

Well, as long as you're aware that Raiden IV, V and Crimzon Clover are games that are closer to bullet hells, but not full-on, then it'll be fine. Sol Cresta will be a slower-paced game more on the lines of Xevious, TwinBee and 1942.

I would suggest trying out the older Cresta games to get a better idea of what to expect, though this game is closer to the second game, Terra Cresta, over the first Moon Cresta. But Moon Cresta is a great Galaxian clone though!

Yeah I don't like bullet hells, but they're oddly addictive, I'm fine with less bullets, it'll be less frustrating for me. xD

@Magician Very nice man! I haven't ordered just yet. I'm going to wait until I get paid before I make my order. Are you going with the special edition or the regular edition?

@Joeynator3000 I don't mind BulletHells, it's just that I see them too often now, there are too many of them and I'm burnt out. I want to see something that is either slowed down or something completely different.

@SepticLemon I'll admit with Crimzon Clover I had a somewhat easier time going through the game without using a continue. In the Raiden games, even on Easy I'm constantly continuing sometimes.

On one of CC's modes I've managed to make it to the "final" before losing my last life. So there's that. xD

@Joeynator3000 Crimzon Clover really does a nice balancing act of putting A LOT on screen without making it silly hard to play. I also like Judgement Silver Sword too, which is included with the Switch version of Eschantos. Plus I love Xenon 2 and Tyrian 2000 too.

Just a standard copy. I'm not a fan of LRG's collector editions. Cheap, second-rate swag made in China. Granted, most mass-produced merch comes out of China. But LRG's swag feels especially overpriced for the quality you get in return.

@Magician Yeah, that is true.

Thing is, I do want that OST though! lol! I wonder if there's a way to get that OST outside of the special edition?

One thing I just realised.

Seeing as people are bitter about the price of the game, I wonder how much the actual arcade version will cost!? A few grand with the cab? lol! Though I will admit, getting an arcade cab would be amazing! But getting that shipped from Japan would be a total nightmare!

I just wonder how much content there will be in this. Like, some games have multiple modes, and Crimzon basically lets you mix and match two sets of them, and that game is only $20. lol

@Joeynator3000 What I'm aware, there is a separate story mode in the game that makes the game feel like Star Fox where the other pilots talk to each other in-game, giving more story to the game's plot. Though it was mentioned that it was going to be a day one DLC, there are rumours that suggest that it's just going to be included in the game as standard due to the delay.

....Huh, guess I'll watch that then, I was about to watch a movie/some anime, but I'll watch this first. xD

Yeah, their best special editions are the ones where it's just the game, the OST and maybe an artbook, or cards. They've actually done quite a few like that of late.

Once we're into the realms of throwing in badges, figurines, stickers, keychains, etc. that I don't want in order to push the price sky high, they can count me out.

I watched the stream last night, I was a little disappointed that the story mode, called Dramatic Mode, is going to a day one DLC for $10. It only has Japanese voice acting, Kamiya did say that he regrets not being able to get English voice actors for the Dramatic DLC, though there were plenty of hints that suggested that there might be an update to that DLC in the future to add English to the DLC. So I know that I'm not going to get that on day one.

As for the gameplay, I noticed that they have at least put a few references to Moon Cresta in the game. At the very beginning of each level, you start in space before you then land on a planet, and in that space part you start off with enemies that appear in Moon Cresta. Such a great nod!

Plus, I had no idea that they weren't going to concentrate on arcade machines for Sol Cresta, seeing as the franchise began in arcades and that the original April Fools showed the game as an arcade machine. Though they will be touring a few Japanese game centres with a couple of Arcade machines that they have built, though I expect that these machines will just be PCs inside arcade cabinets, then again most modern arcade games these days are just x86 based PCs in candy cabs. But I guess the reason for not concentrating on arcades is to do with the pandemic, not to mention that Sega's arcade division is now completely gone, showing that Japan's arcade industry has been hit hard by the CoronaVirus. It would have been interesting to see Platinum work on actual arcade machines that could be licenced to Japanese game centres, but the time isn't right.

Tell a lie, the Dramatic DLC and the Dramatic edition of the game are on the eShop, but not on Nintendo's website for some reason.
