Hey all,

So I know that in the Wii version of the New Super Mario Bros. Wii that if you die/lose enough times, you lose the ability to gain a shiny status on the stars related to completing the game/completing challenges in the game. I'm trying to figure out if the same can happen in the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe on Switch. I'm finding a lot of garbage information, including that which I think is specific to the Wii U version (not the Switch version). Ultimately, what does the Shiny status of the stars look like? After trying to test completing a level (on a copied file, after having beat Bowser in World 8) with the Super Guide active (after dying 5 times intentionally and activating the Super Guide), my flag count didn't increase, but it appeared that my shiny status remained active. Really, how do I know? What does it look like? Thanks!

I just finished 100%ing the main game. My profile has 5 stars that I believe are shining. They have a bright gleam that dashes over the star every second from side to side. Nothing shoots out of the stars or anything, just an effect inside the stars. The same effect can be seen on the star medals in the star medal tracker menu while on the overworld map (given you 100%'d the world you are viewing the star medals for).

Oh, and it doesn't matter if you die a lot and see the "super block" or "help block" or whatever it's called. Just don't use it. You'll probably have to re-complete any level you be at with the help block. As long as you don't use it, you can still get 5 shining stars even if it appears every stage.

Hope this helped!

I just finished Luigi U on NSMBU Deluxe, and I never used a super guide or Nabbit. I got all five stars on my profile, but they aren’t glimmering. I’m very confused, as I came here hoping for an answer. They kind of shine a little with the flags, but they don’t glimmer like on the Wii U version. Luigi, Toad and Toadette all have 99 lives, and I’m getting Nabbit’s lives up just for completion sake. I haven’t finished Mario U yet, but I thought I’d come here and share my frustration as well. It also seems you can’t play as your Mii in the final level with the Thank You sign.
