Topic: Screen illumination and 100% battery...?

I'm assuming I can't find the answers to these anywhere else because of how new this machine is.....but:

1) When docked and charging in sleep mode, the screen on the unit illuminates for a couple seconds every few seconds or so....anybody know what that is signalling?

2) I have concerns over keeping it docked in it's charger constantly in regard to knackering the battery over the coming months, do we know what Nintendo have done to stop killing our systems inside a year? Does it stop the charge at 100%?
