@Lugazz that’s pretty much how I see it. But I guess it’s ok. They have a following and questioning them means you’re a negative nelly, a bully, and mean spirited.
Perhaps it was all wishful thinking from fans dreaming of a system that could stand toe to toe with the likes of PS5 or they were just sick of being at the bottom of the totem pole with the weakest of the main three
Even of they do release a Switch "pro", it's likely to be Comparable with base PS4 and XB1 so would still remain the weakest of the main 3 as things move more towards the New Gen.
@COVIDberry You have no idea how many times Nintendo had done this before.
I have no idea, eh, chap?
Please be cautious with your assumptions.
Can you - and @Haruki_NLI, if the latter wishes - explain to me why a post-E3 strategy makes sense? I am not asking if they have done it before, I am wondering about the strategy. Slowdive's response to me provided some food for thought, at least.
@HotGoomba I thought otherwise, but I do have very unrealistic expectations.
If I can't play Series X games in full 3D 4k handheld on the new Switch I'm going to kick off! I will be heading directly to the Nintendo's head offices and will start a protest outside - hopefully they would have gotten the toilets fixed by then, travel gives me a dodgy stomach.
@COVIDberry The thing that drives hardware sales is games.
In fact thats where Nintendo, and every publisher, makes their money: Software.
Show off all the compelling software, and in the case of the Switch Lite, by the way, all those games we showed off, if you want a good gift for the upcoming holidays for those games, here's a budget option for you.
When they revealed the Switch it was very calculated: Show Zelda off at E3 first, then reveal the Switch, and the first game they showed being played on it in that reveal was Zelda. We saw the scope of the game, we were all wowed by it, the second wow factor was "Okay, now this is what you're playing it on."
For a Switch XL, as I believe it will be called, they show all these great games, pushing the limits of the system, third parties can show off their impossible games, and then a month later Nintendo can say "So do you want to make these look even better?" and the consumers, as brain dead as we are, salivate at the idea of the games we have already seen coming this holiday, in higher fidelity.
Its hard to explain. Showing the system first and then the software running as it does, even with comparison, doesnt elicit as much of a wow factor and talk online as seeing the titles as they were, coming to terms with that, and then being hit with the upgrade.
Its a purely psychological thing, as is all marketing.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
That's been true upto this latest Gen. Microsoft or Sony are both struggling to meet demand with their new Consoles and neither the PS5 or XsX have exclusive games yet.
@Mr-Fuggles777 PS5 does have exclusives (e.g. Demon's Souls Remake, Destruction All Stars, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank) though the major heavy hitters both current and future for that console are crossgen (e.g. Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War sequel).
@Grumblevolcano non of those could be classed as system sellers though.
In fact the Sony lineup pushed me to grab an Xbox instead, it gave me access to a lot of the games I had missed out on last gen via GamePass.
The only reason I was getting a PS5 was for GoW and Stray, now both of those are coming to the PS4 i don't have incentive to upgrade for a while.
@Mr-Fuggles777 I bet plenty of people bought one for Demon's Souls and will for Ratchet & Clank. All depends on who you ask. Here's a better question, why put out a system seller when the console sells on its name alone?
A Switch 2 would probably sells millions even if it launched only with 3-4-Switch.
@Octane both PS5 and XsX were pushing tech forward so people wanted the new toys. I know as I was one of those people.
I bought a Series S because it was the only new console available in the stores and then upgraded to the Series X as soon as I could to see what the fuss was about.
I would.love a .ore powerful Switch but its hard to get excited when it's still going to be a gen behind
@Mr-Fuggles777 That's Nintendo for ya. They don't focus on powerful consoles anymore. And besides, can you imagine an PS5 being shrunken down to a thin little portable device?
Of course Nintendo could make a tv-only Switch, but ew.
