So, yesterdays Rocket League update brought a little suprise for players in the Netherlands and Belgium. Opening crates with keys are now banned, but decryptors are still allowed. I assume that's down to gambling laws in those countries, but I could be wrong on this.
I have no idea if it's affected other games with loot crates, but it's a possibility as they're basically the same thing.
It may be a matter of time before other countries adopt the same stance and clamp down on the loot crate culture that's taken hold of the industry.
There could be a way around the ban by changing the country settings to somewhere else, it may work, and I wouldn't be suprised if people try it.
Personally, I'd be glad to get rid of the crates, selling the items as DLC would be a better route to take, especially as trading is full of scammers and idiots that wan't overpay for what they have.
Gambling content involving real-world currency should be either banned or slapped with an 18+ or equivalent "adults only" rating certificate. This should also include games where real-world currency can be used in exchange for in-game currency in a chance-based game (such as Pokémon Shuffle) where there is no permanent gain via such a purchase.
It is completely outrageous that G rated games aimed at children contain this sort of crap.
Porygon did nothing wrong.
