Welcome back! The unusual thing about Mario 3D All Stars is that Nintendo, in its infinite wisdom, decided to only keep it on the market for about six months. That's not something Nintendo normally does but they did with this game for some reason, so secondhand copies have become much more expensive now it's been out of print for a few years.

If you want to play Mario 64 you can do so by subscribing to the 'expansion' tier of Nintendo Switch Online, which gives you a pretty good selection of retro games, but 3D All Stars is still the only way to play Sunshine and Galaxy on Switch unfortunately.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Switch Online

3D All-Stars is one of those rare releases that Nintendo themselves advertised as being available for a limited time both digitally and physically. FOMO are tactics are scummy. Unfortunately Nintendo doesn't mind implementing them every now and then.

Good morning! Crazy how much prices shot up for 3D All Stars! Nintendo really played with our emotions by limiting it like that. FOMO is real!

I suggest checking places like Gamestop or other used game stores rather then Ebay. Ebay more then likely you will just find people who are looking to make a profit off of the fact that it's a limited release where as a used store will have it much cheaper at a more reasonable price. I remember finding a copy of Harvest Moon for only 20 dollars for SNES at Gamestop years ago when Ebay prices were $100+. I also found Skies of Arcadia on GameCube at Gamestop for $10 when it was going for $80 on Ebay.

So as I said check used game stores or even places like thrift stores, flea markets and even garage sales as you will more then likely find it cheaper there.

@Tasuki I don't know about thrift stores but antique malls do come to mind...provided they have a game section, that is. I know one in Virginia Beach, VA does.

I think Nintendo will re-release it at some point. This year is Super Mario Bros.' 40th anniversary. Who knows, they might announce the relaunch on Mario Day.

It was widely available in stores for about a year after Nintendo stopped shipping it, so I'm kind of surprised to see that it's at such a premium.

In 2023 (so two years after Nintendo discontinued it) you could still get a new copy for the regular price from major retailers like Amazon. That's when I bought my copy, got it for 50 euros from the local hypermarket. But it seems since then retailer stocks have finally run dry, cos nowadays it's only available second hand, and used copies tend to sell for over 100 euros.

I got it in Japan for $45 and in my country - Poland - it's hard to get it below $90.
