Newbie here so go easy. I have set up Nintendo Switch users as Family Profile with myself as the admin and my kids as restricted profile but there doesn't seem to be a way to stop my kids using it? I'd expect an admin account to be able set a 4 digit PIN or something to protect it and the eShop beyond. I'm also keen that they don't pollute my game stats either...
Also related question but is there a way 2 or 3 users can all log on depending on the number of controllers? I.e. each controller gets linked to their account. Reason I ask is because they tend to play in a clan and would would all like to have their Mario Kart progress added to all their accounts instead of just one. Otherwise they have to keep playing with the one account which means it gets way ahead in terms of progress. It's important to me to be able to track their playing time individually as well so a single account for all of them to share makes the parental controls meaningless.....
Oh I have contacted Nintendo but nothing back yet and I've set up Parental Controls against my mobile app (the on console controls were basic to say the least) but have not seen any advanced options on my Nintendo account
@bazzatron I'm pretty sure there is no way to restrict certain users on a Switch. If the game is present, anyone can play it. All you can do with the parntal control app is monitor kids' usage.
I could be wrong about that, since I don't use the app, but that's what I remember from the news when it launched.
The eShop, on the other hand, is password protected, and if I remember right that happens automatically. The default setting is also not to remember credit card info, so there are two layers of protection there. You also get email notifications whenever funds are added or a purchase made, so it's easy to keep track.
Regarding games and controllers with individual accounts, the short answer is no. Only one user is "unlocking" the game at a time. What we do in my household is alternate the account we use for multiplayer, so everybody unlocks vehicles and stuff at around the same rate.
I call that the short answer because I know the Switch actually can log in two users at the same time, they just choose not to implement this. ARMS is the only game where I've seen this done. In ARMS, two players can get credit simultaneously for Party Crashes, and achievements are tracked for both players whenever you play MP. So it can be done. (I'm almost certain it works in BlazBlue CTB, too, but I can't swear to that).

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
@JasmineDragon Yeah that's what I'm seeing as well in terms of options of them all to be logged in and picking up credits at the same time. Hopefully Nintendo sort this out as it's a very family friendly console but if they can't find a way to allow multiple users within a family to play together then it will definitely stop my kids using it - or even worse pushing me to get one each! ;-(
