Genuinely can't believe this exists. The thought of Level 5 even having a presence overseas seemed laughable only 2 months ago and now? Fantasy Life, a cool detective RPG AND GODDAMN LAYTON BABY.
That's certainly one hell of an incentive to pick up the other games on DS XD

I almost fainted when I saw the tophat: Professor Layton is back! And not even his daughter, this will be the real deal! Lets hope the puzzles and story are up to snuff. And maybe it goes 3D (the teaser does hint that).
@Takoda It had the Level 5 logo on this, Deca Police and the new Fantasy Life (I can't believe I'm writing this) so it looks like they're back for real!
No sign of a date though. I’m guessing that this was just a very teaser to tide fans over. It wouldn’t surprise me if this doesn’t end up releasing until early next year (or late this year to be optimistic).
I was surprised that they hadn’t announced ports of the old games considering that they have been available on mobile for a while.
Either way, I’ve barely touched the 3DS instalments, so I best get crackin’.
I couldn’t be happier, that’s so nice! They got some banger games on show and that means the japanese exclusives might not be exclusive forever. Just inazuma eleven making it over would be good enough for me, hehe.
I keep buying fighting games for some reason, even though I barely got anyone to play against.
After Mystery Journey, I'm... only cautiously optimistic about this. If they learned from their mistakes there and this is another incredible Layton game, I'll be super happy, though. I miss this series so, so much.
@Matt_Barber Agreed. The puzzles in Layton's Mystery Journey were a gigantic step down as a result. I'm hoping they're trying their hand with someone new who is able to adequately re-create Tago's style of puzzle design.
My jaw nearly hit the floor. I'm up for more Layton, though I have yet to play Mystery Journey; I just wrapped up the Layton prequel trilogy a few months back. I also wouldn't mind an eventual port of Layton vs. Wright either. Physical copies are scarce, and the download size is too epic for my micro SD at this point.
Edit,: I do intend to give Mystery Journey a chance since I already own it, but I'm not afraid of dropping it should it not be my cup of tea.
I'm another who's being cautious, Mystery Journey was just way too easy to the point that the game felt like a chore to compete rather than a puzzle to solve.
Still there's a charm to Layton that I can't find elsewhere so I will be keeping an eye on this. I described to someone once as what Japanese people think British culture is, lots of proper Edwardian gentlemanliness rather than football holigans throwing a brick through someone's flat on a council estate like the real UK.

Yeah, I'd think of it like Agatha Christie through the lens of Studio Ghibli. If that's what they were going for, they totally nailed it.
The game that was mostly set in London was particularly hilarious for someone who was living there at the time.
I'm cautious about this game, since I know the original Puzzle Master of the series died in 2016, but I'm still amazed we're getting another Layton game, even after all of this time. I thought the last 3DS one was meant to be the last of the storyline, but apparently not. It'll be interesting to see how things pan out.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@RainbowGazelle It kind of sounds like they're taking a leaf out of Nintendo's book and just sticking 'New' in the title, but your idea makes more sense. The game being set shortly after Lost Future seems likely; I was wondering if it would be set after (or during?) Mystery Journey and explain why the Professor was missing during that game, but in the teaser he doesn't look any older than in the original games, and he has an adult daughter in Mystery Journey so presumably that takes place a couple of decades after Lost Future. (Unless Katrielle had already been born in the original trilogy and we just never saw her?)
@Dogorilla There's another option of just that game doesn't count as canon.
However I reckon it's pretty obvious what happened. One day Layton opens his front door to see a pretty young Katrielle there only for her to tell him a few decades ago he met her Mum up in da club where they spent some private time together. Layton asks her to wait inside as he goes to the shop quick for milk so he can make tea for the pair of them as they get to know one and another. However he never came back and has been missing ever since!
