Topic: Possible HDMI issue - need help

I just got a Switch for Xmas and while installing it I stretched the HDMI cable to far and broke the end off. I thought no big deal I have lots of HDMI cables and was able to find a 10 ft that would give me the length I needed. Problem is getting the picture up on the TV. My TV acknowledges that something is plugged into the HDMI outlet and the game will pop up on the screen but only for short periods. If I pull the unit in and out of the docking station multiple times it will pop up for a short time and than go out again (usually i can play for a few minutes before it turns off) . I figure I have one of two problems. Either the docking station is broken or I needed that Nintendo HDMI cable. Does anyone know if that HDMI cable is special and other 3rd party HDMI cables don't work. I'm hoping my docking station isn't bad. Nintendo's website just calls it a "high speed HDMI cable" and the one i'm using is amazon basic high speed cable. Any help would be great thank you all and Merry Christmas.

You’re hdmi isn’t an issue, it is with the dock most likely. I would reccomend calling Nintendo to learn more about the issue

The signal will suffer degradation over longer distances which would result in no image (not reduction in quality), but 10 feet shouldn't generally be an issue. That said, it is still kind of long, might be picking up interference from other sources or have a dodgy connection, so this could be your problem. I would use another (shorter) HDMI cable. I wouldn't have thought a high speed one is neccessary for the Switch (no UHD/HDR signals) but might as well for your money. Third party one will be fine.

Other things you can try (for fun!) are checking the dock for signs of any visible damage and testing your ten footer with another console.
