Absolutely no reason for them to do two regions in one game again, in my opinion. The effort would be better spent making a single really good region, and if they want us to revisit an old one (as in Gold/Silver), I'd much rather see a remake/sequel featuring only that region.
Although it was a great surprise at the time, having recently replayed Silver has reminded me not only of how bare and dull Kanto was in GS, but also of how much Johto suffered as a result.
One thing I definitely want to see, especially when they make the jump to BotW esque open world, is an expansion of the Ride system. Since they're already working with overworld models again, maybe they could use following Pokemon as a method to use field moves. That would be a great way to give the following feature some use.
Rather than a 2nd region I'd rather have the world tournament return, if there was another region I'd only want to beat their gym leaders and elite four anyway.
-but on a slightly less disturbing note it should be really good! Not sure what the game will look like in the end though, I've been looking at Sun and Moon running at 1080p and it already looks great!
A game made from the ground up for the Switch is going to be a big step for the series.
@Dev I honestly believe them. I know people are saying they're just saying this to not admit they heard incorrectly, but I honestly think Nintendo and Game Freak considered this. GF probably was reluctant but with Nintendo's insistence they probably started work. Once Nintendo got Mario and Zelda ready, it probably realized a port probably wasn't necessary so it sent word to GF, which was more than happy to oblige.
These guys were the only ones who accurately predicted the Switch design as NX IIRC, so I trust their sources. Wish they got info on when Gen 8 would release on Switch, but I guess they decided not to make any more predictions for now.
I think they are covering their rears on that one. It may be true, but I have no reason to buy it given there was no evidence from anywhere that it ever existed save for their word they now backpeddled on.
Regarding Pokemon, I wouldnt object to the first Switch game being a remake. It'd take less time away from developing a HD engine when they dont need to design a new world, story and Pokemon.

@MarcelRguez Yeah people confuse sprites and models all the time. It's like...not hard.
On that note the good thing about Sun and Moon is the models for the Pokemon are obnoxiously well made and high poly. People have upscaled them as far as 4K and maybe with some new textures (Although they don't look bad as is in 1080p) if they shift away from the cel shading look they have now, it won't be much work to get the actual Pokemon looking good.
It's everything else.

Look at Pokken for instance. Not the best texture work, but excellent models. It's weird seeing a furry Lucario etc. and on some Pokemon it would just look weird, like Gyarados with scales and how would they do Ghosts? Hell Empoleon with feathers is weird in Pokken.
I think they should keep the cel shaded look, but upgrade the texture details, but don't start using stuff like fur or scales, as it just muddies the design, and it would take forever to do that for every single one of the 807 current Pokemon not including Megas, forms and so on.

I would think that the knowledge from developing Stars on Switch - even if it was scrapped or simply downgraded to 3DS - would help them on the new Switch game. And while I wouldn't expect it for Gen8, once the foundation of the Switch games have been realised, can we please have a less restrictive camera for the overworld?
@YummyHappyPills@MarcelRguez I'm just thinking, because I also thought that Mario and Bowser looked perfect 15 years ago, and now they have more detailed textures and they look even better.
Pokken isn't the best example I think. I'd love to see if it is possible to make them seem more ''real'' without changing their designs or turning them into realistic monsters.
@Dev Not sure I believe this. They managed to backtrack and bring us US/UM within a year? They wanted to test the waters with the Switch and extend the life of 3DS by releasing one of two developed games (that is, US/UM and Stars) mere months after the Switch's release? Just doesn't seem economical to me.
I don't doubt that Game Freak have been experimenting with the Switch, but I have trouble believing that we were ever to get Pokemon Stars as an alternative to US/UM this year.
@Octane It'd have to keep in with the official art by Sugimori and Turner then. Ultimately, fur has been detailed as tufts previously. Im okay with that.
I think they could do more with the texturing, but they'd need to keep it within the art style the rest of the series has.
