Keep in mind that we've been working with our engine for a good 10 years now and went through multiple releases and a sequel now. A lot of the optimizations we did for Will of the Wisps ended up in the Blind Forest version for Switch, so that was a nice side-effect.
Another thing people maybe don't notice immediately is that Ori's sprites were animated at 30fps on Xbox/PC, but for Switch we were actually able to update the animations to 60fps due to all the optimizations, so technically Ori actually even animates a bit smoother on Switch than on the other platforms
It's pretty wild that this will actually be the smoothest version of this game.
I've got it preloaded and it hasn't unlocked for me yet (UK) All games should be made available from midnight but for some reason most are only playable around 4/5pm
See, this is one thing that really annoys me about how Nintendo handle some releases. If i was to order a game on the PlayStation or Xbox Store (heck, even Steam), 9/10 they are available to play just after midnight. I fancied playing Ori on my way to work, but couldn't due to the time.
Yeah, it's a bit annoying but happens with most games so probably not going to change. Can't wait to get started later on though. Surprised there's no review up here yet (they've got one up for the rubbish Devil May Cry 2!)
has the look and feel of hollow knight, but more elegant platforming if that's even a thing. Not to mention everything looks elegant.
the combat is a little different but you get used to it after a little bit.
some good use of puzzle solving, key finding, and exploring
love that you can save at pretty much anytime, given you have the energy.
warp points make it nice for quick travel
hard to tell if I've even done a real boss fight. Just finished getting the orb from the spider looking dude in moonlight grotto possibly? Was he considered a boss fight when you had to trek upward with falling boulders? Or the worm like creature coming out of the ground before chasing him?
last thing, I love love love that once you die you immediately start back up with no waiting.
I know I saved plenty of times when I first played the demo but when I went back to the demo today there was no option to load save data (was going to continue with the demo until completion then buy and transfer to the full game). Is this a demo limitation?
Oh my gosh... my name is Jaxon and I’m an Ori addict. Let’s just get that out of the way now. Who else here has fallen victim to Ori’s unrelenting grasp? You know you can get hooked on your first try. In fact I’d say most probably will.
@Grumblevolcano
Demo doesn’t save, it only records your progress if you complete the demo to allow that progress to be transferred to the full game. But each and every time you start up the demo you start from the beginning. Not that it matters much because you can complete the entire demo in 15 minutes, barring perhaps the opening sequence.
@SKTTR
DKC is not a Microsoft game. Rare (and by extension, Microsoft) holds no rights over Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, or 3. So it doesn’t really feel like “Microsoft” released them on GBA. Nintendo released them, they just contracted RARE to do it.
I think the difference between Cuphead, Ori and New Super Lucky’s Tale, is they were all current generation MS exclusives.
Also, besides Hellblade, Minecraft and it’s spinoffs, there’s also Pillars of Eternity 2 from Obsidian (which is now MS owned) which releases on consoles (including Switch) this year (supposedly), and The Outer Worlds from Obsidian which releases on consoles this year, and Switch next year. I’m sure there’s more

Btw, kudos for that extensive list. That must’ve taken forever to research and type out.

Oh, I forgot New Super Lucky's Tale, and I didn't now Pillars of Eternity series is made by guys who are owned by Microsoft. I edit my post and add them, thanks.
Also, Rare was bought up by Microsoft in 2002 for 365 million dollars. The last official Rare game for Nintendo was Starfox Adventures (Gamecube) in 2002, though Microsoft allowed them to continue producing handheld titles. And Donkey Kong Country 1 for the GBA (released in 2003) and the two sequels as well as Diddy Kong Racing DS were made by Rare who were owned by Microsoft then, so even though they are not games owned by Microsoft/Rare they were made by Microsoft/Rare.
Just beat the water escape sequence. Man what a rush! I died a few times but, learned from those mistakes and got further each time. And of course it throws you right back in immediately after dying so there’s no waiting on load screens. That takes away the frustration.

@NintendoByNature
And the fact you can save anywhere. Amazing feature. Not during the escape sequence but, anywhere else.
I just made it to this forest that's super trippy, like... maybe a haunted forest but not quite? The visuals seem to bend ever so slightly, like you just ate some magic mushrooms or something. Like how light bends from the heat over a fire. But it's not overly present. Just a little. Makes me wonder if I'm imagining it or if it's really happening. Guess that's what they were going for. Love how subtle it is though and non overbearing.

@JaxonH that is a sweet feature. The whole world is really trippy and out there but i love it. I'm so deep into links awakening though that I'm playing ori in 20 min increments. Once I'm done with links awakening, I'll dive into ori much more.
