Topic: Okami Japanese Physical Cart Import

Hi Guys,

Relatively new to the forums. Just need a little help. With Okami being released in August I wish to import the Japenese physical version rather than download it onto my UK Switch. I know the cart will be region-free but was just wondering if the text of the game would be Japanese only or will it come with other language options.

Has anyone else had experience importing Japanese games to play on a UK Switch? What options did those games have?

Thanks,

Google japanese switch games with english support, there are lists with english sub/dub japanese editions. Some japanese games do have english but not all of them.

The game doesn't currently have an entry on either the Japanese eShop or Nintendo.co.jp, so it seems difficult to find out. The page on the UK website DOESN'T list Japanese as a language, however, which is a bit worrying.

As soon as the game appears on the Japanese Nintendo website, it should be possible to confirm, as they list a game's playable languages - which sometimes coincide with the European games and sometimes don't.

So I'm unable to answer at the moment, but it should be possible to find out nearer the game's release.

To give some background, Zelda is pretty much the same wherever you buy it, but Splatoon 2 isn't. So even first party Nintendo titles aren't 100% consistent.

I would wait until the game releases if I were you, I'm sure somebody is going to import it and can tell you for certain. Granted the fact that they have an asia version lends towards the JPN version being Nihongo only. I'm getting the game digital so I can at least report that version when it launches.

I always go by the Japanese eshop for that info. However despite frequently checking, as of yesterday, it still wasn't listed.

@SwitchForce : Play-Asia is not an authoritative source. You should be asking Capcom themselves.

Nevertheless, that email neither confirms nor denies the presence of other languages on the cartridge. For example, the Mega Man X Legacy Collections in Japan both support English despite not having a physical release anywhere else in the world.

The only way we can tell with any kind of certainty (apart from contacting the publisher) is when the Japanese eShop page is published.

Incidentally, I am keen to import myself, but I am awaiting confirmation from the Japanese eShop before taking action.

@Ryu_Niiyama : There is only a Japanese physical version. I am not aware of there being a separate Asian version (as opposed to Japanese) of the Switch version.

Asian versions of retail software generally contain Japanese as well as Chinese and/or English.

@Silly_G Where were the Rockman X carts confirmed to also have English texts? Been looking for confirmation for a while but no dice before dropping cash on them.

@FX102A The Japanese official Nintendo website confirms English (英語) to be a supported language (対応言語), along with Japanese, Spanish, French, German and Chinese.

The info given on the Japanese website corresponds to that given in the eShop, and is the same across download and physical versions for the Japanese market (I'm unaware of any cases of this not being true). So if you want to check language support, it's usually as simple as going to the game's page on the above website and just doing a 'Ctrl+F' for 英語 (English language). If it comes up, chances are the game supports if.

The problem with Ōkami HD is that it's not currently listed on the JP eShop or that JP website, which is why none of us are yet able to confirm anything about it.

Megaman never had a German language option - thus I do not believe that the Japanese version will ultimately have all these languages to choose from.

I asked play asia as well if they happen to know if Megaman X Collections will have English texts and they denied it. I would wait and see. Maybe the menus have optional languages but the in-games not.

If it is confirmed that they offer English texts in all games - well that I will import as well.

NintendoPete

NintendoPete

wait a sec - maybe these optional languages only refer to X8 (maybe also 7) because these have optional language support within the game(s). Not so sure about X4-6 but X1-3 do only have English and Japanese and I bet that in the Japanese version they have only Japanese in-game texts

FX102A

@Maxz @NintendoPete Hmm sounds like a wait & see option is required for these two and Okami as I want all 3 but want physical

@FX102A : English is confirmed for the Japanese retail Mega Man X Collections (as shown on their eShop pages) otherwise I would not have brought it up. Bear in mind that the only way to get both games on cartridge is to buy both separate retail versions and not the two-in-one bundle (the two-in-one bundle includes the second collection as a download code).

Okami is not yet confirmed, however.

it is not confirmed - it can also just mean that in some menus or in the later games that this language option is available. Confirmation would be when Capcom specifically states that you have the option to have in-game texts in English hen buying the Japanese release. E-shop doesn't mean a thing.

NintendoPete

Sisilly_G

The eShop releases are identical to the cartridge versions. It specifically states that Japanese, English, French and German are supported. Whether the ROMs themselves support languages other than English and Japanese is a separate matter, but the package as a whole supports English, Japanese and the usual European languages that are supported in these sorts of (relatively) high profile releases.

If you are specifically inquiring about German ROMs being included in this release, then it is highly unlikely if the games were not originally released in German.

@NintendoPete If the Japanese eShop states that 英語 (English) - or any other language - is a supported language (対応言語), then it unequivocally is a supported language, across both physical and digital media.

As you can see the Japanese page for Splatoon 2 states that only 日本語 (Japanese) is supported, which lines up with the Japanese game cart being Japanese only. Whereas something like BotW lists a multitude of languages, which corresponds to the game being playable in loads of languages regardless of where you actually bought the cartridge.

If you have a single piece of evidence of a game not being fully playable in a language that the Japanese eShop listed as a 対応言語 (supported language), please present it.

You still don't get it. Supported language doesn't automatically mean that all included games have English in-game texts. That might only be true for X8 and still Eshop would state your sentence. But it does not confirm that X1 has English in game texts in the slightest. Could also just mean that there is a multilingual menu

@Silly_G, I guess you should read on NintendoEverything and see what they said. Also from the read it's a Play-Asia Exclusives for everyone else so unless you can show otherwise your not up to date here.
