The dark world concept wouldn't work in an open world because Nintendo wouldn't put in the herculean effort to make it work. A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Four Swords Adventures, Twilight Princess, and MP2: Echoes are all linear or even 2D games.
Asking people to do a double check over an open world version of Hyrule would replicate if not double the walking-and-not-finding-anything problem Breath of the Wild had.
@Haru17 I disagree - you've only got to look at how Undead Nightmare took the Red Dead Redemption map and flipped it on its head to see how it'd be possible in an open-world setting (and how it'd be possible to create both over-worlds within the space of one console cycle - especially considering the amount of time that would be saved by just reusing the BotW engine/assets)
I didn't consider there to be a 'walking-and-not-finding-anything problem' in Breath of the Wild either (I still haven't finished it and I'm still regularly finding new things!) - and would be only too happy to explore 2x Breath of the Wild-sized maps (one dark, one 'light') simultaneously...but I respect that that's just me (you and I probably just play games differently, that's all)
@Haru17 That's just a result of how massive BotW's map is. With smaller areas, it becomes a non-issue.
And to be honest, I'd rather have a smaller map if it means we're getting a similar-but-different version of it built with new assets, for variety's sake.
I know graphics aren't entirely instrumental to a game's overall quality, but I'm hoping for a Zelda game that goes back to Twilight Princess's realistic and detailed art direction, some incorporation of science fiction elements would be a plus... Ideally, I would like to see a Zelda take on the general level design of Metroid with claustrophic labyrinths and atmospheric environments. I
As I and many others here have said before, stick with the BotW formula but bring back the traditional dungeons. The Divine Beasts were cool, but only really fit with BotW's story. Keep weapon durability, but there should be blacksmiths scattered around the world that can fix or beef up broken/weakened weapons.
Keep the shrines with all the cool physic and electric puzzles. But maybe have more 'natural shrines' like a cave with a puzzle and a over world boss guarding some treasure. But yeah, BotW is a winning formula, so they should definitely stick with that IMO. Of course, I'm a huge Zelda fan so I wouldn't be against a new 2D game either.

"In fact, forget the Zelda. Just make them make a Metroid game instead."
