@mariomaster96 Pretty much my logic. I brought Animal Crossing, played it on/off for a month, got bored with it. It wasn't a series I had prior interest in, but I tried it because there wasn't much else at the time. I have no interest in Paper Mario Origami King, as previous experience with Sticker Star and Colour Splash has made me nervous, especially considering all the gameplay I've seen seems very similar (will probably get eventually, but not at launch price and not until I finish Colour Splash which is a slog). And Clubhouse games is fine, but at the same time, it is just a compilation of traditional games that have been around for ages.
Not to mention that if you already owned a Wii U, the ports are unwelcome, no matter how much business sense makes. It doesn't help that the games don't really offer anything meaningful in terms of improvements except 60fps if you are lucky. Ports and indies are great to supplement releases, but not to replace them.
I am not expecting BOTW2, I just want something new. Why are we getting Pikmin 3 Deluxe as opposed to Pikmin 4 for example? Is Nintendo seriously this desperate to pad out their schedule until 2021? Is this what the next console after Switch is also going to be like?
@theJGG This entire thread is speculation. There's never concrete evidence. It's like going to a magic show and sayin "Hmm, I'm not so sure that I'm being shown the whole story. This seems like illusionary tactics"...

@HobbitGamer Right you are, but sometimes people post evidence, or "leaks", and some just up and say "We're getting a direct next week" with no context.
@damien33ad What makes you think that? If there really is a direct at the 28th (which I doubt) then Nintendo will most likely announce it Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
@HobbitGamer I really hope it turns out to be a full direct but only Chinses people get it. I want to watch the internet explode as BOTW 2 get's it's title revealed but it is in Chinese characters only and the first Mario movie trailer hits but he speaks Italian and the subtitles are in Chinese, the Smash DLC fighters are Chinese video characters no one has heard of outside of China etc.
Well, I called the next Direct being the first week of September back when E3 was rumored to be canceled, so I'm not backing down on my guess now. 2 weeks to the Direct in my book.
@damien33ad The latest could be 1 second prior to a Direct. It's going to fall on the fifth Friday this month. I know this, because statistically speaking, it's bound to happen. And as Nintendo has shown us in the past, things that are bound to happen statistically sometimes do happen.

I'd be okay with this. I have plenty to play, and I would also be thrilled watching folks melt down.
That pretty much sums up my attitude towards rumours. Either they're right and I get more good games to play or they're wrong and I get to save my money, enjoy the many games I already own instead and laugh at all the people having a sook. It's a win-win really.

What if the rumours are for rubbish games? Like Metroid Prime 4: Federation Force, Mario Kart: Amiibo Festival, Doshin the Giant Deluxe, The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2: The Wand of Gamelon, Nintendo Labo Toy-con 05: Cardboard box and Virtual Boy HD.
@Blooper987 Those HD headaches and HD nausea will make it fly off the shelves.
In fairness I probably shouldn’t picked Doshin, it was the most obscure 3D Ninty game I could think of to be ported from the top of my head and I don’t actually know if it’s a good game or not.
@jump I would definitely put it up there with Cubivore, Uniracers, and Teleroboxer for most obscure retro Nintendo title. Just how out of left field any of those franchises would be to port is what would make it incredible.
@damien33ad I'm expecting 3D World to be the only remaining unannounced 1st party title this year.
Now that's pretty damn pessimistic. We've already had 2018 where the Switch had almost no big games. I really don't think we can have another year like that, which 2020 would be in your scenario.
In my mind they need at least 2 new big games for the fourth quarter. Not including ports.
I think 1 of 2 things will happen:
1. Years alternate between 2017 style and 2018 style (2019 was 2017 style, 2020 being 2018 style, 2021 being 2017 style, etc.)
2. Switch is so popular that Nintendo reuses the strategy they used in the Wii era, every remaining year of the Switch's lifespan is a 2018 style year but this time games are being stockpiled for the Switch's successor to prevent a repeat of the Wii U era (e.g. instead of the next 2D and 3D Mario games launching on the Switch, they are early launch window titles for the Switch's successor).

But... but... Emily Rogers said 2020 would be a big year like 2017 and 2019.
@Grumblevolcano Option 2 could work if Nintendo just focused on remastering games from previous generations for the remaining years on Switch. At some point Nintendo will have to put their resources into developing big games for at least the first year of the Switch successor and they may require bigger teams than ever before to achieve that, assuming the hardware is at least PS4 power. But I also hope that’s not Nintendo’s plan just yet or it’ll be a rather depressing several years of Switch games.
