@sixrings If people get less excited for the next one then that's probably a good thing. Too many people always set their expectations unrealistically high and then they complain when their unrealistic expectations weren't met.
@BenAV expecting a port is not exactly high expectations. Im also super tired of just being told to be happy with whatever Nintendo offers or to lower expectations. This isnt a food bank and beggers cant be choosers. I can simply go spend my money elsewhere which I plan to do on either ps5 or xbox if Nintendo doesnt release information soon.
@sixrings Expecting anything specific is expecting too much. Best to go in expecting nothing. Be happy about what gets announced rather than disappointed about what doesn't. They were pretty transparent about what to expect heading into the partner showcase. It was actually surprising that we got new announcements at all considering they said it'd be focused on games already announced.
@Magician I'd be satisfied with a lot of Wii u ports. Pikman. 3D world. Winemaker HD.
My point though was ports of Wii u games and or Wii games is pretty much the bare minimum. If Nintendo can't manage to meet those expectations then we are in trouble. When HD windwaker and Twilight sword came out Nintendo boasted that these ports only took 1-2 months to do. So if we can't get games that only take a couple months to make then really what can we expect?
The only one I could find said 6 months for Wind Waker.
Also, I found a lot of people saying discussions for Twilight Princess HD began in late 2013 while it didn't release until 2015, which matches the sole article on the subject I could find. Sounds like it was about a year and a half in total time, though how much of that was development is questionable (certainly it was most likely under a year)
EDIT: Noticed that Tantalus has no announced ports right now despite usually being rather prolific, and it's been awhile since Age of Empires II. Wonder if they're porting WW & TP to Switch right now...? Or they just might be tied up in Cities: Skylines DLC porting I guess.

Yeah, a lot of work went into TP HD but people seem to think it's the same as the Gamecube version.
@link3710 maybe you're right. Somehow or another I thought it was a shorter time frame. Are we thinking that Nintendo spent 6 months to port new super Mario Bros to the shield? And another 6 months for punch out? That seems hard for me to believe. I don't think hose ports are comparable to what improvements windwaker got. But what do I know being a man child and living in my own basement with too high expectations
How important does everyone think anniversaries are to Nintendo?
If we think they are important to them, or useful things to build marketing and releases around, then I think Zelda ports won't be until next year as 2021 is the 35th anniversary of the first game being released.
@jump The big problem with TP HD is... Twilight Princess is often ugly. Cleaning up all the textures isn't going to fix the fact that the game's art direction was often incredibly drab. And they did a lot of work improving texture quality and post-processing.
Don't get me wrong, the aesthetic works gorgeously in the Twilight Realm. But in Hyrule, it's just all too drab.
Of course, the game also has Hero Mode, extra dungeon, all that gamepad functionality, an extra slot for equipping items, no longer showing text boxes for rupees every single time, and whatever other QoL updates there were, it certainly wasn't a straight port.
@sixrings It almost certainly took 6 months, but a small team. The thing with ports is there's a limit to how much manpower you can throw at them. Things like, QA (which is usually around 2 months), can't be accomplished in parallel with the actual porting process. And you can only have so many developers working on porting without everyone not having room to breathe in the code. Put too many people on, and it actually slows the process.

EDIT: In case you aren't aware, the Shield Wii games are all emulated. So they only had to develop the emulator (at least enough to cover the features in those games). Which means it probably took close to a year, but gave them a handful of working games they could release all at once.
With each passing day of no news, I’m getting concerned that the Super Mario 3D remasters collection is not in the works or not coming out by September. Not sure what Nintendo is waiting on at this time. Even a Fall 2020, Early 2021 or 2021 would be fine.
My theory now is, that Nintendo planned from the beginning that 2020 would be an uneventful year. I think, they expect that third party support will decrease after the launch of the new more powerful consoles. Therefore they are preparing to jump in with more first party support starting 2021 (maybe Holiday 2020?). That's why they didn't announce much for 2020 even before the pandemic; and that's why president Furukawa said, that everything planned for 2020 was still on track. I think the pandemic only played into their hands: Now they even have a good reason for not releasing any new games. What do you guys think?
Well, that'd work better if they'd said 'sorry, we had more games planned but they got delayed by Covid', @dionysos283 .... I think I said something like that earlier, too
