I hope if they do a June Direct we get some new 1st party announcements and not just updates/details on DK Bananza/Drag x Drive/Prime 4/Kirby Air Riders/Hyrule Warriors. And by new I mean actual new games, not Switch 2 Editions.
I feel like they could use a notable new 1st party game announcement to drum up hype/momentum, even if it's not releasing until next year. Give us that and some big 3rd party ports like RDR2, DB Sparking Zero, etc and you're golden.
@IceClimbers They didn’t remove the Yoshi’s Woolly World tease from the Switch 2 Direct backwards compatibility segment so that for Switch 1 seems like a good chance for the next Direct that has 1st party announcements. Would fit in with the movie stuff too as Yoshi’s been kind of absent more recently on the games side of things (Yoshi’s Crafted World was 6 years ago but we know Good Feel did 2024’s Princess Peach Showtime so too early for a new Yoshi game).
Since Drag X Drive releases this summer, surely we’ll be given a release date soon?
Since Good-Feel has been busy with other projects recently, it might be a good idea for a Woolly World port during the wait for a new Yoshi game. Maybe this could be announced via Nintendo Today?
It seems like Nintendo is hiding a lot in DK Bananza, I wouldn’t be surprised if we got another trailer soon, or even a dedicated Direct for the game.
Nintendo just revealed a Splatoon spinoff game via the Nintendo Today app which seems like a strange choice if there was a Direct coming up anytime soon.
So is Animal Crossing being made by a new team? This team seems way too focused on Splatoon to be making Animal Crossing, non-stop Splatoon content for 3 years and counting...
@PikminMarioKirby Not necessarily. There's no reason why the team couldn't be developing both at the same time if they've got enough manpower and resources. I always thought it was likely that we'd see Splatoon on the Switch 2 before Animal Crossing (although I wasn't expecting a spinoff game specifically).
Hope we get some news real soon. I wanna know which switch games are getting upgrades and when some new games are coming out. Always hated those early launch days with all the waiting and uncertainty. Reminds me of the launch lulls of the N64 days. Seemed like it was Taking forever for something good to come out.
@IceClimbers these are my thoughts as well. We need some first party stuff revealed. Im not trying to be greedy, but nothing really catches my eye for S2 exclusives other than DK and Hyrule Warriors. Still need to see more about splatoon raiders to form an opinion. But, it kinda makes me want to play splatoon 3 again
It's very strange that literally ZERO new games (third-party or indies) has been announced outside the Switch 2 reveal trailer and the full Switch 2 trailer.
This must means something, or not... There're awfully few new Switch 2 games outside the launch day which we're aware of now.
I also really hope that devs doesn't repeats the nonsense of the "wait and see" approach like they did with Switch despite of that it was a huge success from the very start. Some even waited for like 3-4 years before they released their first game on Switch, like Atlus did.
I finds this really baffling that like no new third-party games has been announced after those reveal trailers... Also that there're also so awfully few Switch 2 upgrade patches from third-parties this so far too.
Nintendo has 5 main 1st party IPs; Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, and Splatoon, and 2 main 2nd party IPs; Pokémon and Kirby.
Of these, this is how each are represented on Switch 2 thus far:
Mario - Mario Kart World, Mario Party Jamboree TV
Zelda - Hyrule Warriors Imprisonment, BotW and TotK upgrades
Animal Crossing - N/A
Pikmin - N/A
Splatoon - Splatoon Raiders
Pokémon - Legends Z-A
Kirby - Air Riders, Star-Crossed World DLC
I wonder when we’ll get Animal Crossing and Pikmin stuff for Switch 2? I think Pikmin 4 is very likely to get Switch 2 DLC, but when will we see Animal Crossing?
@SplatRay001 well yes, but the 5 mentioned series, including Pikmin, are typically in their advertising, and usually the 5 main series they’ve been choosing for certain things recently (like Nintendo Today!’s 5 themed series, and their Nintendo artwork for their store locations)
@Dev-N I think it wasn’t ready to be shown in the Direct, still looks like they’re working on it (I’m going to make a wild guess and say this has Camelot involved in development).
Animal Crossing could be 2026, but I think it’d have to be announced soon if so. It seems like the AC/Splatoon team has been pretty busy, so I do have my doubts.
I’m feeling Animal Crossing for summer 2026 and Splatoon for summer 2027. That might be unrealistic but I definitely feel like Nintendo will want to get these out as soon as possible. Considering New Horizons and Splatoon 3 were only two years apart it’s not impossible, especially since both games are probably a good way through development by now. Six years between ACNH and AC for switch 2 seems perfectly reasonable, and it would single-handedly sell so many consoles (especially if there is a bundle)
Also calling it now, animal crossing will be $80 (they’ll do the same bundle tactic as with Mario kart). Splatoon will probably be $70
