Wow, way more here than I expected! I found 4 games I wanted. Mario and Luigi is a dream come true. I thought the series was dead. The new Zelda was totally unexpected, but looks cool. Mario Party was a highlight since they're FINALLY making a new game in the classic style, and of course Prime 4 was the star of the show! I've been waiting 7 years, and it looks better than I imagined! Fantastic direct!

This was a great direct, I'm genuinely pleasantly surprised. Metroid Prime 4, Zelda, Mario & Luigi are some real heavy-hitters, and Mario Party, Ace Attorney Investigations, and Phantom Brave 2 are also highlights for me.
Also, the fact that I can finally play Four Swords multiplayer for the first time is really exciting.
I did better than I expected. I guess 2D Zelda remake was a bit under what we got and that being there basically rules out any chance of the GC Zelda remakes this year. Also ruled out a lot of the other stuff I guessed I think. If you have a game as compelling as that you don't need to grab a remaster from the bottom drawer. Also instead of DK on NSO we got Perfect Dark which, and I know it's cheating to say this after the fact, but I was going to put "Rare games on NSO" but decided to take a risk being more specific. So I wasn't THAT far off
I also did consider Mario & Luigi when scouring IPs they might revive but I honestly thought it was dead and never coming back. So that was a nice surprise. Still a bit annoyed that Wario Land is still nowhere to be seen. I'll keep predicting it until it happens
But DCKR HD? Bang on. Switch Sports 2/DLC? I guess technically but I think my prediction here, if I'm honest, expected more. Reviving basketball but I'm not upset by. Prime 4? Honestly shocked that it did happen but also not really? Certainly not shocked it's 2025
Honestly the game that surprised me the most was Stray. I just.... didn't think that would happen. Certainly not before Switch 2. Of course there's no real reason why it can't I just don't picture that game being on Switch. So that was a surprise. And there were also a few other random games in there that looked pretty solid
@Magician I also didn’t think the Funko game looked interesting. I don’t know, I sort of don’t like the way Funkos look sometimes and they look stiff. I think a lot of the characters don’t fit in the Funko art style and sometimes look unrecognizable. The only one I recognized was the Freddy Fazbear Funko that appeared for a few seconds.
“Woah-shi! It’s a double Yoshi explo-shi!” - Yoshi’s Woolly World ad, 2015
If you’re curious, the character in my PFP is Toothy from Happy Tree Friends.
The Direct was fine.
I didn't react very excited, just normal reaction.
However, there are some games that I will consider them on PS5 instead, the 3rd party games.
Very solid Direct for this late in the system's lifespan.
Metroid Prime 4 Beyond looks absolutely incredible! Can't wait for that to release.
Was not expecting a new 2D Zelda, let alone one where you play as Zelda! 2D Zelda is definitely the best route for that idea, and the gameplay looks interesting. Excited for that.
Oh, and finally we're getting Ace Attorney Investigations 2 in the west. It took sooo long I didn't think they'd ever do it. Looking forward to the collection!
My only complaint with this Direct is that the headlines parts were very RPG heavy, which after a while kinda just blurs together. I like it when we get more variety from the 3rd party ports. Dragon Quest HD-2D looks sublime though!
On a side note, unless I decide to pick up LM2 I'll have about 3 months to finish Paper Mario and work on my backlog.
Very solid all around! Nothing 3rd party really appealed to me but the 1st party showing carried hard with 5 new games, only 1 of which a remake!! I'll definitely be picking up Mario Party, Zelda, and Metroid.
For me personally this was an amazing direct. Nintendo was smart to swing with the genres that are closely associated with them (platformers and rpgs), however this fighting game fan is still flying over the MVC announcement. At this point the switch feels like a legal emulation box. They don't have everything but they have many of gaming's highlights from the past 40 years.
I'm pretty much sold or interested in all the JRPGs (not to mention the stuff from the last direct that isn't out yet) but DQ 1-3 and SaGa 2 are gonna be soooooooo good. Zelda?! ZELDA! My jaw dropped in shock. So nostalgia wise, LTTP era (so that includes LTTP/LA/LBW) is my favorite Zelda era (objectively its the Wild era though) and I love that the new LA artstyle (which imo is an evolution of LBW's artstyle) is being used. As I had hoped, if they made a Zelda game with Zelda at the helm, she would NOT play like Link and I adore that this is a more cerebral game which that era was known for anyway (you could break some puzzles with certain items and thinking outside the box). I just hope there will be an amiibo. (or amiibo functionality, the Zelda series is one of the largest amiibo collections.) M+L RPG looks really good, I'm already sold on Lego Horizon but I think this new trailer was better than the first (first was too wacky), double dipping on Stray, Shire game actually looks nice but I need to see the character creator before I jump in (I didn't see any dark skinned characters, and that is a deal breaker if I can't make the character creator reflect my ethnicity), curious about Funko fusion but I expect it will be full of franchises that don't interest me, I enjoyed the first Fairy tail game so I will get the second (not sure if on switch though for performance), Last Defense Academy looks really interesting.
I counted 22 games that I will likely buy, so yeah next 12 months is gonna hurt.

Really enjoyed the Direct! Been writing a list of what newly announced games I'm most excited for as I watched it. Here's what I'm most looking forward to... stuff that made me feel like being a kid at Christmastime!
Mario & Luigi: Brothership
NSO + Expansion Pack game update (especially Metroid: Zero Mission)
Super Mario Party Jamboree
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
I'm considering getting the Dragon Quest I, II, and III remakes, since I used to have a couple of those games on the NES. Maybe I'll get Metal Slug Attack Reloaded as well. I'd like to check out the Disney Illusion Island update too... the Direct encouraged me to come back to this game and finally finish it.
But yeah, some parts were a little too RPG heavy for my liking, and it's kind of a letdown that Donkey Kong got another rerelease instead of a new platformer. But as a whole, this was still a great showing with a lot of stuff I'm totally excited for.

Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World
AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
Mario & Luigi: Brothership is my most anticipated game right now, Mario RPGs are BACK! Unique characters, great battle engine, and probably story (although we don’t have much of the story as of yet). Within 365 days we got SMRPG, TTYD, and M&L Brothership.
That was a fantastic Direct. Highlights were Prime 4 reveal, Echoes of Wisdom, DKC Returns being freed from Wii/3DS and DQ3 remake turning out to be remaking 1 and 2 as well. I will say, it does feel that there's still an unannounced 2024 1st party release considering the 1st party gaps between NWC and Echoes of Wisdom as well as between Mario & Luigi and DKC Returns are longer than normal.
