I'm hoping the online features will include high-score challenges and so on, but I suspect it might be limited to the standard 2-player mode being made available for friends only.

Glad to hear that. Definitely „i can play it when i feel like it” mentality is better than not knowing when the particular game may just disappear.

Oh, I'm sure high score sharing is going to be included. I wonder how speed running purists will feel about these games being available on the Switch? Will they consider them equal to the original physical releases, or dismiss them as cheating?

@FaeKnight they'll probably see it as emulation and thus not acknowledge the scores.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Ya know what let's just use this thread to talk about the app and the games.

From now on this is the main NES - NSO thread.

Yesssir! Don’t forget than you can use the Y button to move titles around in your “catalogue” screen. The size of the box art changes based on the amount of titles in a row.
1) Move the cursor over a title
2) Press Y
3) Move the cursor to any square dot that now appears
4) Press Y again to confirm

I just played a quick game of Balloon Fight for the first time in ages and my score was 351200. Can you do better? I know I can!

Edit: Do you think we ought to have a separate thread for NES game high scores? I'm itching to test my skills!

I just got 999999939992492! Yep, I'm that good.
Haha, nope, I suck at Balloon Fight. Started with the Mario games. And maybe, just maybe, I'll play thru the first Zelda for the first time now lol

While I've only had a quick test of the NES games, its looks good so far. Games load insanely fast, they look great in handheld with the same display options as NES Classic and while the guy I joined online didnt seem to know how to get a 2 player Double Dragon match going, the connection to his feed seemed flawless.

Pity its just Friends Only online but thankfully my Friends List should have more than enough people online. So far so good.

Just beat Mario 1. Emulation seems spot-on, no complaints from me so far!

Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill

I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!

Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.

If you guys are willing to curate and mantain a highscore/competition thread then go ahead.

As for my time playing the NES games, I started with a quick Yoshi match, and then took time to set up a proper starter file in Zelda (blue ring, white sword, big shield, blue candle).

I don't usually like using save states, but saving normally would be too cumbersome on this system (since you need to exit the game to set up the second controller as player two). So to get the money to buy the blue ring I used some save states outside the money making game.

Already?! What are you, a Speedrunner?

I have to admit, I've been erratic in my jumping from game to game here. Played a bit of SMB and lost all my lives by world 1-3 (wow I'm out of practice), tried out Yoshi, played a few boards of Dr Mario, did a round in Wrestling where I had no idea what I'm doing but won anyway, played a bit of River City Ransom... Just kind of hopping from game to game rapid fire. Something I never would have done on the actual console since by the getting the game cart to work could be fiddly, so when you did get it to work you played that game for hours.

My best so far was 7, not that I thought to grab a screencap. Instead I jumped from that into Zelda and attempted to complete the 1st dungeon. After finding it, that is.

Ugh, need to get to bed. But my last attempt at doing so has me all giggly due to playing SMB3 in bed instead of sleeping. I've docked the Switch, and should try again. But...

@toiletduck I really hope we do get SNES games in the future. I'd love to play the older Final Fantasy games and Chrono Trigger. As for NES games I wish they could make Duck Hunt work on a modern TV. Man I loved that game as a kid, but it simply doesn't work on flat screens.
