I need help deciding between Super Mario Maker 2 and Super Mario Party. With regards to Super Mario Maker 2, I probably will not spend much time creating any levels. With regards to Super Mario Party, I probably wont have that many opportunities to play multiplayer which is why Im stuck deciding between the two games.

neither - I bought SMM2 and kinda regret it. It was fun for the 100 singleplayer levels but I barely touched the community made levels and created just 1 level. It is still a great game but you need to invest some time.

I'd rather advise you to buy a complete different game (probably singleplayer due lack of multiplayer options) or wait till Nintendo announces something you really want to have.

@NintendoPete Yeah, I feel like I would probably regret the purchase since I have no interest in creating levels and I much prefer the Odyssey/3D land type of Mario games

The regular mario games are better anyway. letting random people create the stages who obviously have no experience designing a fun well thought out stage is just a recipe for disaster. I can't tell you how many of them i immediately skipped because they are just awful. Too many people think it's funny to make damn near impossible stages littered with spike traps, mazes or just plain troll courses.

My recommendation would be SMM2 because SMP really needs friends to get the most out of it.

The story mode in SMM2 is great but the real meat is endless mode and creation mode. If you love playing random levels of totally random quality then this is for you. Some of the levels are amazing, some pure garbage. Really RNG (in endless). (though you can search out the better levels)
Also if you like creating levels SMM2 is perfect for you.

If you like neither, then skip both games.

PS. People saying the regular mario games are better . . . that's just their opinion. Some people really like NSMBU. Some hated it. I actually didn't like it also. I bought it cheaply on WiiU back in the day. I am not re-buying it on Switch as I really didn't like it.

Nintendo's stock levels like in NSMBU are very average. No garbage but nothing really inspiring either.
I really like SMM2 though.

I kinda regretted buying Mario Maker 2 aswell i mean i enjoyed the storymode but the creating levels and playing random levels created by people never interested me.. I enjoyed NSMBU way more than Mario Maker 2 by the way.. I say wait for something else to come out

Hey!

I'd go with SMM2. I'm not the kind of player that loves to create levels. My thing is just play them. The point is: after you ´play the 100+ levels in story mode (they're great!), you'll still have tons of good levels created by other people to play. You can filter the best/more popular levels or you can get recommendations on the internet for good levels to play. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. There's neverending content in it

if u wanna hold off on smm2 u can play "I wanna maker" on steam for free. It's quite similar.

I mean, if you have no interest in making your own levels AND not playing community levels, you'd be insane to buy Maker 2. Like... that's really the whole game, in my opinion. The story mode was nice for like an hour or two, but that's not where the game truly is.

I'm not huge on creating myself, but I can sit down and just play community levels for hours. So much fun. Normal mode if I wanna just relax and blow through things, expert or super expert if I wanna focus in and challenge myself. The new speedruns are cool, though not frequent.

@Heythumb You can get literally hundreds of hours of fun from Mario Maker 2 without ever making a level yourself. There are countless amazing levels people have made to play. MM2 makes any other 2D Mario platformer obsolete. The only downside is they haven't updated it much and implied new themes never arrived.

But single player Mario Party is just not worth it. And Super Mario Party was a let down - it's fun but there's very little content overall and it quickly becomes stale when you play each board a couple times. The game desperately needed more boards.
