Topic: My suggestion for nintendo as game developer...PORT

nintendo switch is a great console thats easy to develop for and its possible to port xbox one and ps4 games to it but my sugesstion for nintendo is to work on porting the top last gen games , games that came out on ps3 and xbox 360 . games like just cause 3 , fallout , dark souls , oblivion , red dead redemption ...etc. Why ?? those games are gonna be the easiest to port and optimize and will fill the switch with a majority of classic games that alot of people might not have experinced. if nintendo brought virtual console and ported all first party wii U games that in its self is a huge gain for nintendo. this will increase the appeal for the switch ... heck who doesnt want to a clear a hideout in red dead redemption on the go. nintendo doesmt even have to stop there , some games can even benefit of nintendo switches extra power. for example red dead redemption can have improved frame rates , better lighting , anti stropic filtering and when docked ... a higher resolution. if nintendo switch sales pick up big devs might be tempted to port ps4/Xone games to the switch(with lower textures of course) and truly boost the platform further. Now the switch has an extra advangte on current hardware ( other than easier development) and this advantage comes with the fact that its less powerfull than its competitors. switch is alot cheaper to develop for so instead of massive budgets going to art and 4k resolution and textures , it is spent more on mechanics of the game and its gameplay and programming , thus we end up with higher quality games.
all in all, i suggest nintendo ports and even pays if it has to to get old games ported.

Or people could make new and exciting games for the switch, like has been done for every console in the past. I'm not going out a repurchasing games I've already played just for the novelty of them being portable.

@shaneoh agreed and people should be patient for the 3rd party support , games being released this year for xb1 and PS4 have been in development for years so it makes sense why not many triple a games are being mentioned yet

I don't really find old games from a few years ago I've played appealing. I do want old games like Zelda and Mario games on like the gamecube we haven't seen for awhile to be on VC, or even remastered

The thing is after wii U most of the publishers i know have been very cautious about the switch. One great example of that is Dark souls 3 , from what i have heard the game is running great on the switch (though i heard it has a bit of downgraded textures) but guess what they are not releasing untill the switch sells well and that's the problem . Nintendo lost alot of devs with Wii U not just because of sales but also with their wierd and extremely strict developing requirements back then.

Octane

@ValhallaOutcast When was that ever a problem in the past? We had consoles launch during the holiday and still get all the games that released that holiday season.

@Octane switch is a diffrent case though , the dev kits that were given to major publishers probably arrived mid summer of 2016 , put the fact that porting a new AAA game takes approximately a year , that does explain why the switch doesnt have triple AAA third party games yet

were already getting ports, Payday, The Elder Scrolls, Monopoly.
while im glad nintendo are getting some third party games (even tho mostly it's ports.) i would be interested in New AAA titles instead.

@Aozz101x AAA will get on time , switch needs to sell well thats all

@mahmoodinho98 I think the reason we won't get many new AAA games from the big publishers has less to do with power or cost of porting and more to do with marketing, mangement deals and perceived potential/the user base on Switch lining up with their target audience. Even Switch selling millions of units probably won't shift that as much as some might like.

In that light ports of older games from the PS3/XBox 360 era definitely have potential. Not only because they're easier but because they're lower risk for the publishers. Infact the publishers will want to port many of their decade old games to phones or tablets eventually anyway. Since they have to port those games to an ARM architecture why not put them on Switch, where people actually pay for games, first?

I think the performance of Skyrim will have a lot of influence on the extent to which this happens.

But for everyone like yourself who has played an old game there are millions (by far and away a majority) who haven't for various reasons such age at the time, financial situation when the games launched, general lack of awareness etc. These people might really love some "old games" if they were properly presented and marketed.

Don't forget that the GBA - one of the most successful gaming platforms ever - was largely home to SNES and Mega Drive ports. It did the format no harm whatsoever.

So long as Nintendo supply us with top quality original material alongside I have absolutely no complaints about ports. I really can't understand why people get wound up about them.

@Whitewatermoose yup , although it would really help if gta 5 is ported to the switch and it would be even better if its ported with same graphical fidelty as last gen but with much more optimization to give a much longer battery life. They can opt to improve resolutions and textures when docked

mahmoodinho98

mahmoodinho98

@Whitewatermoose yup its gonna sell alot . Certain games will sell alot specially collection games , if we can get borderlands collection , dark souls collection and a few GTA games ... Will sell alot . Undescoverd wii u gems like pickmin 3 and winwaker HD will help the nintendo switch sell many many many units.

@Whitewatermoose I don't even understand GTA Online. I don't even get what you do in that game online.

And that is why these games don't sell to Nintendo customers and are therefore not ported.

NEStalgia

ValhallaOutcast

@NEStalgia GTA online is really no different than any other GTA play style, your a criminal and you do criminal acts for money that's used to purchase weapons, cars, appartments, garages etc

What makes it online is you can be on a map with other humans , you can PvP with them or team up to do those criminal activities

@ValhallaOutcast So...basically an MMO without quests? I thought the big thrill of GTA was the tightly scripted heists, which I admit can be fun. 5 had so few of them though.

NEStalgia

ValhallaOutcast

@NEStalgia ya it has that MMO feel , lots of small jobs or quests and only 5 or so big heists, but even those heists you can only be the heist leader once for each one, any reply you have to be invited to it be someone else.

Its fun for a bit but gets old fast for me, the first 5 months or so when Online was released back in 2013 was really fun but it quickly became a big troll session and I ended up only doing private rooms with friends

Friend Code SW-4365-4821-7317

NEStalgia

@ValhallaOutcast Yeah I was going to say that sounds kind of boring! And, yeah generally anything openly online in gaming ends up being a troll session unless it's a focused competitive thing like Splatoon or COD etc. Even Triforce Heroes I'd end up with people just picking me up and throwing me into lava over and over.

I'm definitely not the target audience for the series. I played 5 and the production values were great and the big heists were well done and very fun, but that was like 6 hours of gameplay and the rest was "I don't know, figure something out to do." Some say BotW is the same, but with that you have armor kits to upgrade, etc. so there's a sense of progress. GTA didn't have any sense of progress or improvement for the effort other than getting money to "buy" pieces of the map. I'd love to see a much more focused, story driven experience from the game. They're capable of doing it.

But then online sounds more popular and is basically the same game but with other (usually irritating) people. So much for a compelling scripted narrative in the future!

I actually agree with this post to a degree. However, it is early days and Nintendo will need to see who is buying the Switch. They proposed a blue ocean strategy. If that is what they have, people new to gaming, then your proposal is awesome and made of money! If it is simply people that buy all the games on all the systems then I guess the audience would not be as susceptible to it. However, the amount of people that do that is usually a small percentage of the user base (just more vocal in forums because it's a hobby). 40 or so people moaning they played everything in a 150 page thread is hardly any significance against the backdrop of 2 million people who are new to gaming or have only played Nintendo games.

So ye, lets see some remasters of oldies. I have never played Red Dead or Skyrim. You have no idea how excited I am to be able to play it anywhere finally! I would really like to see Wonder Boy - Dragons Trap, Ultra Street Fighter 2 etc become the start of a new movement in redoing the oldies whilst retaining the gameplay.

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

@Whitewatermoose ya that's one thing I will always say about Rockstar they don't let their games die they keep adding and adding for free, most updates are minor like new races etc but still to keep developing a game and not hiding it in paid DLC like most devs do

I'd say we need more 3rd parties than ports. Nintendo is only going to port the heavy hitters that made them a ton of money anyway. The rest is up the the 3rd parties. I do hope that Nintendo is pushing for possible late ports of games that are nearing completion for the Twins. I would pay so much to have MvC:I on the switch.
