The fact nintendo is reviving the series makes me both nervous and excited.
Excited because its a new metroid we've been asking for.
Nervous because how the hell is the modern day metroid going to live up to the expectations of the prime trilogy when since then its been a mess.
Regardless, I now have a reason to buy a switch and this is proof that nintendo listens to us when we begged for a MP4 around MPFF's reveal.
EDIT down below: @DarthNocturnal that's another worrying point... I wonder who actually is working on it.
I'm just skipping to the last page to make my comment, because I'm sure there's lots of "but it's only in development - not ready for awhile - rawrrawrrawr"
-SHADDUP- (that's "shut up" with a NYC deli accent)
lol
It's better than the dang nothin' we've been getting for the last decade, and it shows that they're listening at least just a little bit. (Same thing with the Pokemon announcement.)
I was hoping for something new/different from the franchise, but Prime 4 isn't/won't be a bad thing
Maybe it will be new and different for the series. Maybe it'll be more like Zelda: BOTW - more open, more 3D (as in actual height and depth - traverse mountains and landscapes, not just paths through them).
I just hope it doesn't take as long as BOTW to find out!
I do agree that I don't like a series to simply do the same thing it's done in the past.
As a counterpoint though, NO ONE has actually made a Metroid Prime-like game since Metroid Prime 3. Actually no one, that I'm aware of. So yes, please just take the exact format from a game from 2002 and give me a new one. Please! Thank you!
The new 2d not AM2R thing looks cool. I'll get it. But you can get other 2d Metroidvanias. This is the only way we're getting a gameplay-continuation of my favorite game of all time, so Nintendo wins for me just with this absolutely nothing teaser.
Retro's team is big enough to produce 2 games simultaneously! They just choose not to make any! Life is a choice and choices are lives. Deal with it...

Seeing as Metoid Prime is in my top ten games of all time, I am super, SUPER excited about this!
A shame that it is just a placeholder logo at this minute, but knowing that the game is in active development with 2018 as its release date means that I will happily wait until it comes out before I buy go out and buy a Switch. I am really looking forward to seeing the first footage for this, and which studio is developing it.
This news elevated a fairly ho-hum Nintendo Showcase into a rather good one! Good going, Nintendo.
@Peek-a-boo It's not confirmed for 2018 I'm afraid! The ''trailer'' said ''now in development''. And if we have to believe the producer, Prime wasn't in development last year. So I think they literally just started development. It's going to be a long wait.
@Octane Last year? I know Tanabe said there was no Prime game in development back when Federation Force was revealed (E3 2015), but did he say the same thing in 2016?
@Octane So, just to clarify this point, it could very well have already been in development for, say, a year. Maybe more, maybe less. There's no way to know without getting the names of the team members involved.
I posted about this in another thread, it feels to me like Prime 4 was announced just to avoid any kind of uproar about Samus Returns and AM2R. Not to mention, people would complain about the game being on 3DS and not on Switch, just like it happened to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. If that's the case and they actually have anything to show, they might want to save that for another time (next E3, probably)
I Can't believe it...
i was one of the people that has doubt of it being shown at E3 2017 this year. i can't wait to hear more!

@Octane Prime's dev? From what Tanabe said about it, I thought it was "a new team" at Nintendo, not a third-party studio. It would be pretty crazy for them to outsource both Metroid games, but I wouldn't be that surprised.
From's logo was in that list, yes. I don't think it's them, but they're one of the most apt candidates to make a good Prime, that's for sure.
