Has Nintendo already released TOO MANY Mario games on Switch? I feel like these releases should've been spread out better.
We already technically have 2 3D Marios, 2 2D Marios, 2 Mario Karts, 2 Mario Sports, 2 Mario Parties, 2 Mario+Rabbids, 1 Paper Mario, and more.
I'm pretty fatigued, but what else is left? I'm sure we're guaranteed to get a 3rd Mario Party and Mario Sports game on Switch later, but basically every Mario spin-off has been covered now.
The Switch is supposed to last another 4 years or so. I wish Nintendo EPD would dedicate more effort to their other franchises (I'm looking at Donkey Kong, Nintendogs, Pikmin, for example).
Well, a lot of them are ports or remasters (e.g. MK8DX, Mario Party Superstars, NSMBUD). Even so, that is quite the abundance of games. I wish they'd slow down on the spin-off front and focus more on the core, platforming games, as there have only been 2 "new" ones since 2017, counting SMM2 (or 3 counting Bowser's Fury), which isn't a crazy number.
Nintendo can make as many Mario games as they like so long as they're good, unlike SEGA, who gleefully pumps out one mediocre Sonic game after another, with their best game in years rehashing decades-old design choices (and they get praised to high heaven for it too facepalm).
But, yes, there are many other Nintendo franchises that are criminally underrepresented on Switch. I'm surprised that we have only ONE retail Kirby game and absolutely nada from some of Nintendo's handheld franchises from years gone by.
The fact that Wii Sports doesn't exist in some form on Switch also feels like some cruel and twisted joke. Wii Sports is old enough now that fans are nostalgic for it (it's absolutely bonkers knowing that it's nearly 15 years old!), and while some may roll their eyes at yet another Switch port, Wii Sports Club could very well fly off shelves this time around (though a beefed up version containing the Resort activities would be even better).

This diss doesn't work considering Sonic Mania is also better than the vast majority of Nintendo games.
I mean its not any less embarrassing, but its more embarrassing for everyone, not just Sega, in this example.
I'll never understand what people love about Sonic Mania. Just feels like a lazy rehash of the Genesis games.
"Who would want to play a new game like some of the most beloved games of the 90s, but without the limitations of a Sega Genesis?" is certainly a take.
I mean yeah, it reuses level concepts too much, but they're still like new levels that are designed differently, unlike if you just replay the old games you've already played(which are still great even when you're familiar with those levels, they didn't magically become boring because I'm familiar with them).
I don't think it's too much at all, considering that these are all technically different game series with diverse styles of gameplay. Even 2D and 3D Mario are quite different. And there's also the consideration that (i) some of the games are ports, and (ii) the Switch represents the (near) full output of Nintendo whereas historically their home console would've been half of their output. Some series (e.g. Mario RPGs) are even underpresented on the system.

The bizarre thing here is that Sega haven't been pumping out Sonic games. Our last mainline Sonic game was 4 years ago (5 by the time the next one releases), and before that, ignoring that we had Mania and Forces in the same year, it was another 4 year gap. It's mindblowing how they manage to space out their releases so much and still make a mess of things.
As for Sonic Mania? I'd say it builds on rather than rehashes decades-old design choices: and that is the appeal of it. It takes most of what is good about the classic games and modernises it to make arguably the best 2D Sonic game we've ever had.
That said, even as a lifelong Sonic fan I do find that both the classic games and Sonic Mania are overrated. I'd maybe rank Mania higher than some of the NSMB games, but otherwise think Mario has been consistently better.
What other Mario spin-offs are left? Not sure how much people care about Dr. Mario. Mario+DK, Mario+Luigi, Mario+Sonic are all dead series now. I wish we got Pikmin before Mario Maker 2.

That's kinda extremist, why not just wish for Pikmin 4 was out rather than get rid of Mario Maker 2 so Pikmin 4 can come out? It seems like you're trying to make Mario as a boogie man to hate on which I agree with so let's dress as up as Pikmin so together we can storm the Nintendo capital in protest of too much Mario!!! ;p
