I had a good time setting my best 200cc times for the new tracks. It's funny when you set a time you can't match again.

I like how Paris and Tokyo tracks change routes. They would have a greater impact if they were introduced with Mario Kart 9. But, I'm also tired of waiting for MK9, and glad we've gotten some new content.

@WoomyNNYes I really want every track in MK9 to do what the Tour tracks here do in changing every lap. We have that already somewhat with the segmented tracks (Mount Wario, Rainbow Road, etc.) but after experiencing actual loop changes with Paris Promenade and Tokyo Blur and seeing how much fun they are, I really hope they set a standard from here on out. I won't mind if they keep some as just regular 3 laps since you kind of have to have a sense of familiarity but if half of them were changing lap by lap I'd be happy.

@RR529 Oops! I misread that, my bad. You're talking about those metal things that looked like cheese graters? I'm not too sure why that was changed, either, but I will say that the new pixel art thing on the wall looks really nice.

Okay, I have to give Paris Promenade even more credit than I've already given it. I had no idea about THAT turn in front of the Eiffel Tower until just a few minutes ago, lol.

IKR, I'd traced it a good few times when some punk came out of nowhere after the Eiffel Tower and I was just, "WTF did they come from?"

I am quite disappointed with the mobile/Switch version of Choco Mountain. They basically removed the fog and watered down the humps before the finish line that make the last seconds so exciting in MK64. It has also lost the super fast sensation and the riskiness. It's one of the most fun tracks on N64 but on Switch is just serviceable. The new art style is also duller with light browns. Coconut Mall is also much more enjoyable on Wii. The Switch version has lost a lot of personality and the fun of the escalators. It baffles me that Nintendo make their own games (and circuits) more boring, I don't know if it's an accessibility obsession or what.

On the plus side, there are some new great tracks (from Tour) like Ninja Hideaway with a lot of creativity and thrilling routes. Toad Circuit is fun at high speeds but I think that the best thing about Mario Kart 7 is the stereoscopic graphics which are obviously absent here. Sky Garden reminds me how great the Super Circuit soundtrack is. Paris Promenade is fine but I prefer Daisy Circuit. Shroom Ridge and Tokyo Blur are okay.

Mario Kart 8 is generally beautiful but the gameplay is the most boring in the series. The vehicles seem to be glued to the road and the anti-gravity, flying and underwater sections add nothing to the gameplay. I still play all the entries because it's one of my favourite series since I was a child and I always have more fun with the older entries just because of the gameplay and physics, especially Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash. Wii is great, too, whether you play with the controller of a Wii Wheel.

trying to get wave one of the dlc but i have an issue. the nintendo e shop says that it's not available for purchase as it lists the release date. i updated mario kart 8 deluxe to version 2.0, my software is at the latest version and my clock is accurate. can anyone help?

So I've been watching a load of Mario Kart Tour videos to see whether any other tracks suffer the same fate as Sky Garden (very simplified track layout) and at the moment it seems to be just SNES Vanilla Lake 2 and the Lightning Cup of Super Circuit that is massively simplified (Sky Garden, Cheep Cheep Island, Sunset Wilds), note the game doesn't have Luigi Circuit so can't compare that.

@GamerOfBravery You can't buy individual waves of the DLC, it's all 6 waves together in the Booster Course Pass or nothing.

@Grumblevolcano Four is a significant amount of massively simplified circuits.

@Banjo- Compared to the total amount of retro tracks in Tour it's small but the number of massively simplified Super Circuit tracks is a massive proportion of total Super Circuit tracks in the game.

Tour has so far:

  • Super Mario Kart - 12 tracks
  • Mario Kart 64 - 5 tracks
  • Mario Kart Super Circuit - 5 tracks
  • Mario Kart Double Dash - 2 tracks
  • Mario Kart DS - 4 tracks
  • Mario Kart Wii - 3 tracks
  • Mario Kart 7 - 11 tracks
    Total - 42 tracks

@StarPoint I'd love to see many of those too! I know that Daisy Circuit is a relatively simple course, but I love it for the atmosphere and music alone. I like Kalimari Desert for similar reasons, I love the old west setting and the train going around. Another one I'd like to see is Wario Shipyard from Mario Kart 7, the music and shipwreck setting is awesome and it's just a fun course to race on.

So, is today the day new tracks come to Mario Kart 8 online races?

EDIT booster tracks come to online March 22.

How will the tracks work online? Will they be added to the regular random rotation for Worldwide/Regional or will they only be available in Tournaments and the like?

@Fizza I've seen that discussed already, and the details don't stick in my mind, or seem vague. So, we'll know tomorrow when the dlc tracks come to online on March 22.

This is what we know, from a nintendolife article
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/02/reminder-you-dont-n...

Nintendo: Courses from wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass can be played from March 18th locally or online in Friends and Rivals races, even if only one player owns the Booster Course Pass or has access to it as part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. From March 22nd, courses from wave 1 will also appear in the Random selection when playing Global or Regional races with anyone online.

Nintendolife: Though playing online in 'Global' or 'Regional' from 22nd March will give you a chance of seeing the tracks, this will be a long odds game; each race gets a randomised group of 4 tracks, with the final race determined by everyone's votes. It won't be an ideal way to see them all quickly.

Have they said how often waves will release (other than ending sometime in 2023)?

Do you think all waves will release in packs of 2 Cups like the first (so 8 tracks each wave, with about 3 waves a year), or do you think further waves may be 1 Cup at a time (so 4 tracks each wave, with 5-6 waves a year)?

Switch - Blade Strangers

@RR529 They haven't said how often tracks are going to come out, though I could imagine there will be a new wave every 3 months or so. I think they're gonna do 2 cups at a time, at least I hope. 4 tracks at once really isn't that much.

@RR529 All we know that there's 6 waves of 8 tracks each, the first wave released on March 18th and all waves will be released by the end of 2023. My predictions are:

  • Wave 2 - Announced in E3 2022 Direct, releases in July
  • Wave 3 - Announced in September 2022 Direct, releases in October/November
  • Wave 4 - Announced in February 2023 Direct, releases in March
  • Wave 5 - Announced in E3 2023 Direct, releases in July
  • Wave 6 - Announced in September 2023 Direct, releases in October/November

@RR529 @StarPoint They will have two cups per wave:

@MarioLover92 Ah yes, thanks for clarifying. I think @Grumblevolcano is going to be spot on with how they release these tracks, with one wave per Direct. It would make the most sense and it would be timed perfectly with them coming to a close at the end of 2023.

@StarPoint Yeah you're welcome! That does seem to be the case, I would also imagine that they would have three waves for each of the two years. While we were getting the last batch of Smash Ultimate fighters, they said that the last one would come out by the end of 2021, and that's exactly what happened.
