Topic: mario kart 8 deluxe joycon bug

Hello everyone. I got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Christmas, and I've been playing it since then. The problem is that sometimes, when I start a race, the A button won't let me go forward no matter how hard I press it. It basically works as a brake, similar to the B button. The only solutions I found are: A) going back to the main menu, and B) pressing the home button and then removing the joycon from the joycon grip (that's how I play) and inserting it back in, though this solution is not a guaranteed success. Normally, it isn't too much of an issue when I'm playing offline, but when I play online it definitely gets annoying.
Is there any solution to this, or is my joycon just screwed? Thanks!

You need to called Nintendo to either fix the joycon, or get it repaired/replaced by them.

Have you definitely got the Joy Con connected as a pair? If the Switch thought you were just using a single Joy Con on its side, the A button would act like the brake. Check the controller setup on the home menu if it seems wrong and check that both are connected as a pair.

@peachyval Yeah, maybe CinnamonRobin figured it out, above. Ragular joy con mode vs split joycon mode for multiplayer.

@CinnamonRobin yes, it's recognized as a pair, but I think there's just something wrong with the joycon itself because the R button is also giving me problems. I'll probably buy a new one, this one is old anyway.
