Has anyone else had the problem where the remotes will veere you to side without steering your controllers or having auto steering on. And it's not a problem with my controllers since they work fine in other games. Anyone have this issue?

Pause the race and turn off motion sensors.

When I played the game 2 player for the first time, the game had the motion sensors automatically turned on.

Hope that helps.

@Jerry1322 Yes, we're having that problem too. Agree it can't be broken controllers because it is a problem that happens intermittently between all four of our joycons. Sometimes it doesnt happen at all.

I'll try turning off the motion sensors.

I've just tried playing 3 player, all controllers playing up....the A button completely unresponsive on my pro controller!!

I too got this problem. My character might all of a sudden steer to the side, often the opposite direction than I want. I got motion off and it happens to all my controllers. This has to be some sort of bug in the game.

I recall NlAlex had the issue as well during the first MK8D NintendoLife tourney.

I am having the same issue and it's not the motion sensor since I already turned it off???

I am also having this same issue and my motion sensor has been turned off. Is everyone having this problem just playing online or playing offline as well?

Just offline 3 player for me!!

As for 'veering' I noticed everytime you 'switch' (get it){never gets old} controls it turns on motion control. Now I was playing with two sets of joycons and a pro controller and I was having many connection issues with the controllers!!! Not fun I hope this can be fixed with software and isn't a hardware issue!!

I've had it happen while playing two player offline. My kart started to veer to the left. I'll have to double check the motion is off. I played online a while today and did not notice it. But earlier when I was playing time trials it happened.

I had this happen last night when playing 3 player as well. I'll check that motion is off if it happens again.

I don't think I have had any control issues with MK8D yet. Most I get mad at is when I want to play with motion controls using both Joy Con. If you move your left hand a little when using the right to steer it also reads the other Joy Con and makes the steer change.

@OuterTsuchinoko This sounds similar to the issues I've had. I'm going to make sure the motion is off when I'm using the joycons in the grip.

I too am having this issue. Only in multiplayer on the same screen. Tilt was turned off. It happened with smart steering both on and off as well. Usually only one player at a time. Wether it was one or two joy cons

I'm having this problem with my left controller. It just veers off to either side when I'm not touching it. Everything is off, automatic steering, acceleration, everything. Happens in single mode and even online playing. Such a pain!

hi can anyone help me? i just bought the mario kart 8 game and wanted to ask how many joycon controllers do you need in order for two people two play on the same switch? my niece and nephew both want to play but im having issues on how many of the joycons are needed for both to play together? does each person need two joycons or only one?

allaico927

Zyrac

@allaico927 Not the right place to ask but... you only need one Joy-Con per player.

It is entirely possible in fact probably that the problem you are having is not due to the hardware but actually down to the game.

My partner and I got a switch for my little lad which we gave him yesterday (Christmas day) so imagine all of our disappointment when we came to the conclusion that the gamepad was faulty, particularly as we had seen a barrage of people reporting this same issue on the internet.
We arranged to return the gamepad to Nintendo (or the Joy-Con as Nintendo seem to have renamed the humble controller), but as our son wouldn't be able to play his console until Nintendo had sent back the repaired controller we reluctantly purchased a new set of controllers today and let me tell you priced at £70 they don't come cheap. Imagine our frustration when playing Mario Kart the new controllers did exactly the same thing.
It wasn't until my son paused the game I noticed at the top of the screen there are three boxes that are actually the cause of this and another problem (auto accelerate). Each box toggles a different setting all of which are enabled by default, they are:

SMART STEER - setting for younger players who have trouble staying on a course

AUTO ACCELERATE - noticed that you don't have to hold your finger on the accelerate button, this is why

TILT CONTROL - By default the directional controls are set to both the thumbs stick and tilt, WHY?? This is why your kart is veering to one side. When you are sat on the sofa, hands on your lap with the controller what you don't realise is that tilt control is enabled and you are unwittingly the cause of the very problem causing your frustration

MAP ON - Says what it does on the tin, toggles whether the map is enabled or not during the game

I have to say it is extremely frustrating that Nintendo enabled these settings by default and that the issue hadn't been discovered throughout the testing lifecycle of the games development, worse yet that Nintendo don't appear to have put 2 & 2 together and released an update to address the issue. To make matters a little more frustrating it also appears that you have to change these settings each time you play, I have had to so far at least.

I dread to think how many people have returned controllers believing them to be faulty, I have seen posts from people saying that they have purchased 2 or 3 sets of controllers to find the same issue.

I hope this post helps those experiencing this issue.

@vexedbumblebee. Two thumbs up! Blows my mind you spend all this money and they cannot provide simple instructions! So thankful for your post! Just made a 4-year-old very happy!
