I'm just annoyed that my amazon pre-order, which I got within about an hour of it being live, says it's arriving on the 19th, not the 18th. Well that's just unacceptable!
Pre-ordered! I'm a little annoyed at their lackluster efforts as I was expecting the windwaker wii u game treatment, but I can't not buy a super mario game, that would be blasphemy.
Pre-ordered and have done the click and collect option so I can go and get it as soon as the shop opens next Friday for a full day of play. Work can go f*** themselves that day, this is more important hah.
@Apportal, @MarioLover92 The controls weren't the only reason I dropped SM 64 DS, but they certainly played a big part. I think I ended up sticking with the button controls as I no longer had that thumb peripheral and absolutely hated the touch controls. Other reasons that I dropped it included the fact that I wasn't fond of playing as Yoshi and worrying about constantly collecting hats (I've read the actual characters are unlocked later). The mini-games, while fun for the most part, didn't do much for me either; I'd played New Super Mario Bros. recently at the time, and the two share many mini-games. This might be a bit unfair as SM 64 DS came first, but it is what it is. XD
I did enjoy Super Mario 64 on the Wii U VC. The polys haven't aged the best (though they aren't hard on the eyes either), the camera is clearly a product of its time (though I realize this was a novelty then; wasn't it one of the first games with free camera movement?), and the physics are a bit slippery, but I still had a great time.
@Zeldafan79 I'm less of a completionist with most games these days; unless it's something I REALLY like, I generally don't have the time to sink into 100%ing a game. It's a relief to know that finding most of those isn't a requirement.
@Octane If Sunshine is about like SM64 comtrol-wise, I doubt I'll experience much more than mild annoyance at times. I'm sure I've dealt with worse. A recent example would be my TW101 playthrough. Not that it was bad, but I did have some frustrating issues there.
@BlueOcean I'm glad to learn those blue coins are purely optional; I was worried they were linked to one of those "gather X item to proceed" types of things.
The way you paint the rest of the game, it looks as though I'm correct in seeking out a way to (finally) play it. I try to go into games I genuinely want to try with an open mind and do try to appreciate their positive qualities. I've loved the other 3D Marios I've played (haven't played Odyssey yet, but the plan is to start it later this month), and I feel it would be remiss to avoid Sunshine entirely.
Thanks for the feedback!
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet - The Indigo Disk, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
@Tyranexx Yeah I still enjoy Super Mario 64. Some signs of aging yeah, but it still controls well (IMO) and I had fun exploring many of the worlds the game offered. I do like how the DS version added more characters and Power Stars to get, but as I explained earlier I'm not a fan of the controls. Oh yeah, when I played the DS version for the first time I was rather...confused as to why I'm playing as Yoshi rather than Mario. I mean, Mario's name is in the title of the game, I wanna play as Mario, for goodness sake! It's just like in Mega Man X7, where you play as Axl first and have to unlock X. Except that game is even worse than SM64 DS, but I digress. lol

Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World
AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! โค๏ธ
@Tyranexx I'd even say it's an improvement over 64's physics. Control-wise you have more options with FLUDD, but you also lack a couple of classic Mario moves like the long jump, and you can't punch like in 64, but FLUDD makes up for that with a dozen new moves or so.
Iโm such a sucker. Iโve preordered even though Iโm not 100% sure I want this just now. On the other hand, three 3D Mario games is never going to be unwelcome - especially since the only one Iโve previously played is Mario 64 back in the late Nineties.
3D All Stars preload has started, the game icon is the 3D All Stars box art zoomed in (not 3 separate game icons like Borderlands and Bioshock). I guess from this the games won't get standalone re-releases after March 2021. Instead the games end up being completely gone like the Wii version of Super Mario All Stars with Nintendo extending that "limited" approach to digital.
@Apportal So what game will you guys play first when you get this elusive collection? I want to start with Super Mario 64, I can get the 120 stars quickly.
This is a good question. I would like SM64, but also Sunshine. Sure, the last will be Galaxy.
