So, I was sitting outside playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on my switch while waiting for apartment to air out (forgot about a tray of muffins that I was baking, for 2 hours). No fire, but lots of smoke. When my next door neighbor asks what game I'm playing. I mentioned it, so she grabbed her switch and we started racing against each other. Then another neighbor saw us, asked what games we were playing, and got THEIR switch so they could join in the local races. This kept happening, until most of the people in the apartment building were sitting outside racing each other in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Which has caused us to realize how many people in this building have a Nintendo Switch and that game, so we've organized a weekend long double elimination multiple bracket Mario Kart 8 tournament for this weekend.
Still, this afternoon was a blast. And I'm looking forward to this weekend's tourney. We plan on using multiple power strips in the community room of the building, and we're gonna do a indoor cookout using our various George Foreman style contact grills for lunch. We all agreed to split the costs of food, so we'll pool money and someone will go buy the meat, buns, chips, and soda each day.
@StuTwo Was that a crack aimed at my cooking skill? Because I'm actually a fairly decent cook. I just forgot to set the egg timer, and was busy doing prep work for a roleplaying session I'm GMing. Lots of research, creating npcs, drawing maps, and other required book work meant that time slipped away from me till the smoke alarm went off.
EDIT: In other news, I got eliminated from the tourney today towards the end of the planned sessions. Was doing pretty decent overall. I placed 3rd in most of my races, 4th in the first one I lost, and 6th in my last race. But while I'm not part of the tourney anymore, those of us knocked out are still gonna be racing each other tomorrow (now today (guess) and generally having a fun time at the Mario Kart party the tourney is a thin excuse for.
No idea what you're referencing then. I just thought this was insanely lucky. We're thinking of starting up a community event after this weekend since it's been such great fun. The winner of this tourney gets to pick what type of food we'll be having for the next event.
EDIT: After looking it up, no the meme didn't really apply. I was outside by myself while waiting for the apartment to air out. The fact things kind of snowballed into a massive Mario Kart 8 party, and spawned a weekend long tourney came out of left field.
EDIT 2: Well, tourney is over now. The final winner was a kid who knew every shortcut and is so good at taking tight corners and getting boosts that he lapped everyone at least once, some people he lapped twice.
