I like arcade driving games. I like open world games. I could get behind a Lego version of Forza Horizon. The idea of switching between boats and vehicles on the fly is very The Crew-esq, I like that aspect as well.

However, every time I see 2K in the name I immediately assume this will be drenched with microtransations.

Also, knowing that the Switch port is not being developed in-house by Visual Concepts, the video posted on the official Nintendo YT account is most likely a bullshot (gamerspeak for false advertising; in this case PS5 / XSX footage being advertised as Switch footage). Because nowhere in the video does it mention "gameplay footage captured on a Nintendo Switch." That makes me concerned about the quality of the Switch port.

I don't know.

On one hand I love this trailer's Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed vibe.

On the other hand...I know better than to put faith in this.

I myself am personally going to be getting this game on PS5. After watching the available gameplay, I know better than to think that video will be representative of the Switch release. Maybe another miracle port can be created so Switch owners don't feel like they are being given the short stick. Won't know until we know. Now, if the game is indeed bloated with microtransactions, I definitely will be skipping this one.

This game looks very intriguing to me. I really like arcade-style racing games like Forza, so I'll probably keep my eye on this one. That said, my trust in 2K is extremely low. As you said, knowing them, it's pretty likely that this is going to be riddled with microtransactions.

Lego games have had a pretty solid streak lately, though. While I personally didn't love Skywalker Saga, I know a lot of other people did, and the more recent puzzle games have been pretty successful I believe. I hope this one turns out well.

So basically they took the Lego DLC from Forza Horizon and made it into its own stand alone game.

Microtransactions and live service features have been confirmed. And my interest in this game is now completely gone. A great idea ruined by terrible business practices

Yeah, it looks like the Forza Horizon formula - not a bad thing. I don't think Forza Horizon has has problem with microtransactions. You can still earn plenty with regular gameplay. The DLC track expansions have been meaty. There are exclusive car packs you can buy, but it's rare I've wanted one. And, so far, we've never seen a lego game abuse micro transactions. So, I'm not worried about micro transactions.... yet. Let's see when the game releases.

I mean, the gameplay itself look super fun, but I have always hated seasonal content and micro transactions... I kind of want to believe that the game will have enough base content to justify a purchase but I am afraid of what content might be locked behind a paywall. It is a shame because I was really looking forward to playing this one on Playstation 5.

For anyone interested in the physical version on Switch. It looks like the Switch is a code in box instead of a cartridge. Here is the Argos listing in the UK: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2257507

In the US GameStop website also states download code only too.

I'm tied between getting the Xbox or Switch version of this game as the downgrades shouldn't be that noticeable.
It's got failrly decent reviews on Pushsquare and Pure Xbox so the NL review should drop anytime now and I can then make my choice.
Anyone played it yet?

@Chaotic_Neutral It’s a big downgrade from the other versions but its pretty fun. Visually it ain’t pretty but after a bit I got used to it. Races are like a chaotic mix of mario kart & sonic transformed. Lots of side quests & lots of micro transactions but it doesn’t really effect me cause I don’t care about the building which can be very expensive seeing you need to purchase all the individual pieces.

@MeatSauce thank you, how active is the online? Switch doesn't have crossplay and this could definitely impact the lobby wait times.
Also what is the Framerate like? I would definitely want a solid 60fps for an online racer.

I've found it on CD keys for £25 for Switch but if there's no-one to play with I would rather pay to play it in the real consoles.

@Chaotic_Neutral No Problem. Haven’t played online yet as I’ve been unlocking cars in the campaign. I’d guess about 30fps. One of my favorite racers on switch is need for speed hot pursuit its 30fps but looks & performs great. Burnout Paradise is 60fps but everything infront of you is fuzzy so its hard to tell where go. I use my switch exclusively handheld with my fixture s2 so this game is a nice option for a portable open world racer.
