@Mgalens If you stick to 'verified' games it is fine and all works pretty seamlessly, but there is definitely lots of tinkering with other games! Some of my collection works perfectly with no messing around even though steam says the game isn't compatible, and others have required a load of workarounds. It is such a mixed bag, complete opposite of the experience on switch!

@The_Trooper49 To runs game on another platforms or emulation this requires updating the game codes to work - you don't just put it there and it works. Those games has to be at least tested to run as before otherwise putting a shovelware emulation on NSO service isn't going to be a good PR nightmare to fix.

@SwitchForce
There have been games with the N64 service that i hear have had their issues especially when n64 games first launched.

To be fair with switch it can also sometimes feel like a gamble when playing games on it, especially with third party, While there (fortunately) hasnt been issues with games being outright unplayable we have ended up with games which have framerates that can drop into the 20's

At this point im really hoping we find out what Nintendos next system will be even if its launch is a while off, since if its going to be an improved switch i will happily wait for it to launch but if its going in a completely different (none hybrid) direction i will likely end up getting a steam deck.

as mentioned i would love to see sony step back into the handheld scene since i did enjoy the PSP and the Vita even if the vita was largely doomed in the west. Considering the PSPgo was kind of like a switch with the "cradle" acting as a dock. Really it would be nice to have more options when it comes to the dedicated handheld scene and it does feel with the popularity of the switch that handheld devices have had more of a spotlight on them with the switch bridging the gap between the handheld and console crowd.

Both systems are fantastic. The steam deck was a no brainer for me as PC is my main gaming platform so I was already set for games. What I have started doing since getting it though was stopped buying multiplat games for switch that I wanted to get portable over getting them on the PC.

The switch is now really used for exclusives now.

When the games work as intended Steam Deck is better for sure (my opinion) but I've encountered issues with some games that wouldn't even start then there were issues mapping a control scheme. The one thing I prefer with the Switch is the way you can just plop a game into it and away you go, it's not always that straight forward with Steam Deck.

The biggest crutch of Deck is as one said button mappings. As opposed to Switch all it's games are ready to go on the start and one can later custom the buttons. That to me is what makes a game anyone can pickup and play just by standard buttons on the Switch. And availability to buy in-store or order online shipped with inventory to do so is how making game one survive in this tight market. Deck to become more known needs to be able to mass production to bring more but then there is the Battery issue they also need to solve as well. Doesn't help when the power source can't last as long as the Switch just to game that doesn't to garner more to buy it.
