Topic: I really don't understand the people who just seem to want the Wii U catalog on the Switch

Apples vs Marshmallow Pancakes

One can play much better by holding a stylus drawing on a screen which is thousand times more precise than whatever that touchscreen is on the Switch or analog sticks.
The other one is Mista Thumbmasta who uses analog whenever he can not even thinking that there could be other people having much easier time with a different control method.

A versus match would show that both controls are balanced in the hands of the right person. Both controls are integral parts of the game. Wii U can do them. Switch can not. And it has 2-Screen Gameplay. That's two reasons why it belongs on a Wii U and not a Switch.

Make a sequel but don't port downgraded Wii U games. There aren't really many Wii U games available to port to Switch without sacrificing something: But Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Yoshi's Woolly World, and Super Smash Bros. would not lose anything or just very minor things as they haven't really used Wii U exclusive features in a meaningful way, so they're first picks for easy ports. Keep in mind not using all features of a system doesn't make them bad games, DKCTF, YWW and SSB4 are all 10/10 games!

@JaxonH I wouldn't mind a Pikmin 3 port, provided it comes with the first two games. Remakes in the same style as Pikmin 3 would be even better, but I know I'm asking too much at this point...

@Octane I think Pikmin trilogy could happen if Pikmin 4 isn't a 2018 game.

@Grumblevolcano Maybe, but at the same time, we're already getting a lot of ports, so I don't think every one of them will happen.

And Pikmin 4 must be a 2018 game, right? What else are they doing with that game?

SKTTR

They make it bigger, bigger than the tiny Pikmin 1 & 3, just as big as the big Pikmin 2, maybe bigger.

Most people aren't collectors that like to have 20 different consoles. I think it's great that they nowadays re-release old games on newer consoles so you can have all of your games on one system. The Switch is also perfect for this since it's a portable, so not only can you get all games you want on it, but they're portable too.

@SKTTR Pikmin 3 was in scope than bigger than 2. 2 had a lot of repeated procedurally generated dungeons, but those were arguably the worst part of the game.

I don't really see an issue with it. The Wii u has some great games, ive played most of them, but having them on the switch would be awesome for the portability aspect alone. I wanted Bayo 1 and 2 the most so that was a nice surprise. But some games that I specifically would like to see are Wind Waker HD and Mario Maker. Not at $60, but I would buy them again.

More games on the Switch are never a bad thing, they could be filler for slower periods in the future. It would be cool to get Wii U virtual console for like 20 bucks a game but that's probably not very realistic.

The WiiU is still a great console. However, since it was a commercial failure, it would love to see the great games it had on the Switch. Tropical Freeze is a gemstone. I played it last week again for getting 100%, finally. All Switch players should have the possibility to play this great game.

Remember that the same problem existed for the Dreamcast: Games like Skies of Arcadia und Sonic got ports for the same reason.

Because that's how these past few generations work now. Last generation had a lot of remasters of the generation before, this generation has a lot of remasters of the generation before. This is no different.

It just suits the Wii U and Switch better than normal because, let's face it, not many people wanted a Wii U just for a few games.

Pikmin 2 had the most content, biggest number of collectibles, biggest number of enemies. Took me around 48 hours to complete 100%, Pikmin 1 was 20 hours, Pikmin 3 was 25 hours. Great games but always too short, except Pikmin 2, got my moneys worth on that one.
I don't mind how the levels are designed. In fact procedural even adds replayability.
I just want more Pikmin time. More stuff to do, to break, to build, to defeat and to collect with the occasional puzzle and boss.

@SKTTR Procedural generated levels are never as good as levels designed by hand IMO. Plus, there's only so much time I want to spend in a game, no matter how good it is. I don't have an issue with ''short'' games (I don't think 20+ hours is short by the way).

Anyway, that's why I prefer Pikmin 3 (and 1), they're packed with enemies and puzzles. The overworld in 2 felt a bit lacklustre, as if they had less resources to spend on them, because they also had to work on the dungeon. And the end result is that neither one of them shined. Plus the dungeons neglected some of the core gameplay features of the games. I didn't really like them. Pikmin 2 is definitely the weirdest out of the three.

That would be fine and well if you played the entire game with a stylus in your hand resting over the touchscreen... But you don't.

You play the game using buttons with your right hand which means anytime you need to draw something you have to remove your hand and reach over to the screen to draw it.

I played both ways- not just one or the other. And I can definitively state the analog is faster because your thumb is already on the analog. You can draw the entire move with the analog before you would even have moved your hand and made contact with the touchscreen. But it takes a bit of skill to learn the moves proper.

@Octane
Considering they re-released the games on Wii with motion controls, a trilogy using Joycon for motion would be insanely awesome. But I'm not sure we're going to see that. One way or another though we need Pikmin on Switch.

Nintendo doesn't owe Switch owners any Wii U ports. If you didn't buy a Wii U, you don't deserve most of these games. Simple as that. Tough luck. Maybe you shouldn't have let an irrational hatred for a piece of plastic get in the way of some incredible games? The Wii U is a great console, warts and all, I don't care how it sold.

Most major games have already been ported or are in the works. Nintendo WILL leverage their back catalog on Switch in some way, we just don't know how yet. Smash is a given. Kirby and Yoshi are coming. Games like Pikmin 3, SMM, SF0, and W101 would need significant changes to work on a single screen. In some games, like SMM, the experience would be so compromised, I doubt it's even worth doing. SMM and Pikmin 3 would be terrible on Switch.

To be honest, since usually consoles don't have retrocompatibility, and in particular Switch has NO retrocompatibility at all, I think Nintendo "should" owe Wii U ports EXPECIALLY to people who owns both Switch and Wii U, and probably would like to just dismiss their old console without losing the games they like. I would like this for the Wii.

Nintendo don't owe Wii U ports to people who didn't buy the Wii U, but the fact is a porting usually is a cash grab so it is a win-win situation in the end. Nintendo can get a lot of profit with games they have already created and did not sell as good as they could have.

@SharkAttackU I adore my Wii U, no question. It's got a permanent position in my living room, alongside the PS2 and N64 But quite frankly, there are a few games I missed that I'd much rather finally play on the Switch, without all the bulky OS and limited range issues to deal with. I don't believe I'm owed, or deserve said games. But I don't see why people take issue with merely wanting them? If they don't get ported than yeah, some day I'll finally play TMS#FE, XCX, and PM:CS. I'd just prefer to do it (especially XCX) on the Switch.

IMO, any game that didn't require 2 screens and/or a touch screen should get ported over and sold at a value price just to get more people playing them and to fill out the catalog. Captain Toad, Donkey Kong, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Paper Mario, Yoshi's Wooly World, hell I'm in the extreme minority here but I would buy Devil's Third again.

@Hitokage1 The spacing was really bad especially in the first year, a successful console needs good games and good spacing. The exception to that rule is the PS4 but that's only successful because of Microsoft's mistakes with the XB1 and a large quantity of gamers only play FIFA and CoD..

You're right about that spacing. Anyone remember how the whole first year of Wii U was spent promoting, "The Year of Luigi," instead of promoting their new console? What was even the point of that marketing gimmick?
