I see people saying stuff like "please release all of your Wii U games on the Switch Nintendo" and "please release all of your Virtual Console games on the Switch Nintendo" and I really don't get it. I mean yeah, I can see how some people might find that convenient, but do we really want the Switch to be dominated by Nintendo recycling the same old material all the time? Personally I am happy that Nintendo is focusing on new content instead.
I mean for me it's because I don't own Wii U... and while I don't mind getting a Wii U for cheap, the problem is just that I have no TV for Wii U (o_o ) so if they re-release, it's good for me. But it's not going to make me crazy if it doesn't. (There's only a few I want to be out at Switch anyway, just 2 or 3 ish, and while it'll be fun to play them I don't care that much if it's not out)
Two major reasons for this. The first is the fact that many many Switch owners now and in the future will never have had a Wii U, leaving it's catalog mainly inaccessible to said people. The second is wanting to see enhancements or cheaper availability. For example, a smash 4 port most people want both the 3DS and Wii U content in one game. Or with Star Fox, a new control scheme to help save what was a good game at it's core. Xenoblade Chronicles X is usually asked for because... it would actually be possible for many people to finish it as a portable game. And TMS#FE because people want that game to have a chance to be a success and get a sequel. I can't think of many other games people are asking for ports of, as Mario Maker is more likely a sequel than needing a port.
In my case, its for convenience' sake. If they hadn't released Splatoon 2 on Switch, I'd have been screaming for some form of port of Splatoon 1 on Switch instead. Because while I have both Wii U and Switch, having everything playable/accessible on a single system is incredibly appealing to me. Not to mention being able to take it anywhere and play it anywhere I want. That said, I'm not after the entire Wii U catalogue being on Switch - I just want the three most prominent titles from Wii U on Switch. They were the three that kept me VERY happy and forced me to keep coming back to my Wii U LONG after I bought my final game for it.
Those three titles being, Smash Bros Wii U, Bayonetta 2 and Splatoon.
With Splatoon 2 already here and Bayonetta 3 confirmed for Switch, I'm literally just waiting for Smash to come to Switch (Not a matter of 'if' but 'when') and then I'll be incredibly satisfied. I dont care what comes after that aside from Pokemon. I'll be happy no matter what.
But I know I'm just one person, so let's hear what others have to say about this.
Never take anything I say seriously. S'all you buddy. ;)
Mainly play on my Switch but I have 3DS, Wii U and PS4 as well.
Fave game series include: Pokemon, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Disgaea, Bayonetta, Dragons Dogma, Phantasy Star & Arena of Valor.
The wiiu was a huge failure. But the games that were on it were for the most part good. So it makes sense to port popular titles from the wiiu to the switch so more people can enjoy them without having to waste money on a wiiu.
Because the WiiU is an utter piece of garbage and no one should ever have to play on it!
My contractually obligated bashing of WiiU aside, many current and future Switch owners simply never owned a WiiU and won‘t buy one for the few worthwhile exclusives that aren‘t already on Switch.
Personally, just like with Virtual Console, the thought of being able to play all these titles on the big screen and on the go whenever I want is simply massively appealing to me. Plus, with Bayonetta 1+2 coming, all I‘d need is a port of Wind Waker HD and Smash 4 and I‘d be happy. Also, I have sworn to never play on my WiiU again. It‘s now been returned to its original job as a door stopper, and a pretty poor one at that.

@darkfenrir I'm not entirely sure. I think it works, but maybe not for all games. I know certain games do take a solid drop in resolution on the Gamepad, though.
I can understand because I am one of those people. The Wii U had a pretty strong library, the problem was the Wii U hardware itself. The thing ran slower than the freaking PS3, the gamepad added nothing of value and it felt like a chore playing games on the console. It was disappointing because I've been a Nintendo fan since I started gaming with the NES way back in '87 so I wanted to enjoy the Wii U, I just couldn't. The Switch, however bare bones (and there certainly are some things I'd like to see Nintendo improve feature wise in 2018 and beyond), is the successor to Wii that I was hoping for. Didn't played Mario Kart 8 for more than a few days before trading the Wii U in and considered the game a disappointment. Bought it for the Switch back in May and it's my most-played game and my favorite kart racer of all-time. Tells me it clearly wasn't the game that was the problem but more the system.
So yeah, I say bring over as many of the Wii U's big games as possible. Switch will surpass lifetime sales of the U by mid-next year if the current sales pace keeps up and many of us who own Switch missed out on a good portion of games from the previous gen. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Resident Evil Revelations are outstanding ports, the Bayonetta announcement was great and hopefully there will be more coming over the next 12 months. Super Mario 3D World, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Smash Bros., The Wonderful 101, Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Mighty Switch Force 1! and 2 are all games that could slot in nicely, help flesh out 2018 and give some games a second shot on a machine people actually seem to care about. One game in particular that could benefit is Star Fox Zero. There's a decent game in there underneath the gimmicks. Rework it for the Switch and it may be a winner.
Obviously, if the choice is new games/sequels or Wii U ports, I'll take the former, but there's no reason there can't be a healthy dose of both. Nintendo did a pretty good job balancing that this year.
