I Was wondering recently, and i wanted to know what everyone else thought; How Seriously should I take trying to beat games?
In Simple terms, Should i Push through all the hours of a game that i can in the longest one sitting possible? Or Should i space out my activity over time, Even if beating the game potentially means the sequel will have come out by the time i complete the story of the first game?
I Am Just wondering and wanted to know what everyone else think and what your habits are when it comes to this kind of thing.

I just do what I feel like doing at the time. And what time allows for. If I have an urge to beat a game, I'll work towards doing that; if I have an urge to play something different, I'll do that.

It's madness, I know, but somehow it works for me.

I often don't finish the games I play, I usually move from one game to the next before even coming close. It depends on the genre. Some games can be played, start to finish, in under an hour. Conversely rpg games can last well over a hundred hours (Dragon Quest XI, The Witcher III, etc). Worse yet, live service games (Warframe, Fortnite, Rocket League, etc) are built to never be finished completely.

Continue to play something so long as you're entertained, and move on once it ceases to be fun.

It's entertainment. Play games however you like. I generally try to beat the story and engage with most of the content of a game I enjoy, but some people feel the obsessive need to see and collect everything in a game. Both approaches are valid.

And if you just want to play every game you own for a few hours before moving on to others, that's valid too.

I struggle with the "one game at a time" thing. I usually cycle between five - eight games.

The vast majority do this except those I heard of for BoTW that ran all the way to the end but then I watched a YT of how it was so easy it was to do one simple 3 Ancient Arrow launch and that ended it.

@Ralizah Completely agreed. I do sometimes play one game at a time, but often only if it really grabs me, story or gameplay-wise. And if not, then I just vary between whatever type of game I like to play at any given moment that I'd like to dedicate to a gaming session. And nowadays, being an adult with spare time seemingly becoming more an more sparse, even those games that really grab me can't even hold me indefinitely. And it should be a hobby, after all, not an obligation.

@Willax So, yeah... that's my opinion on it. I think you should just do what you like or feel is right, not what you think you should do because other people are also doing it. If you feel like playing a platformer today, a beat em up tomorrow, and a racing game the day after that, then just do it and enjoy it. Or play multiple types of games in a day and/or evening, if that is what you like.

No one's looking over your shoulder, pointing their finger at you if you dare to stop playing a certain game after only one or two levels. And if you do have these kinds of people in your life, then those aren't good friends, so you should just ignore them.

Just play your games when and while you feel a desire to do so (within reason, of course).

If you stop enjoying them, then what's the point right?

On SNES, N64, Gamecube I completed nearly everything 100%, because I was young and had all the time in the world. The only games I didn't complete were the super hard ones or the ones with missable items. Having 99% scans in all three Metroid Prime's (and having to start them from scratch to get 100%) sucked in my OCD phase.

On Wii and Wii U I got too many games. I still beat most, but I completed maybe only half of them.

On Switch I don't complete many games, I don't even beat many games anymore.

But there's a handful of games that I think are still pretty fun to complete. Yoshi's Crafted World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for instance.
They're designed to be fun to complete. Every item you can add to your collection is a new challenge.

They're like the old Mario and Zelda games - and with old I mean every Mario and Zelda game before those on Switch.

Because Super Mario Odyssey is tainted somewhat by 999 repetitive moons and Luigi's unbalanced balloon missions, and Breath of the Wild is tainted by its unobtainable glitch-chests, limited space to collect all equipment, and the 900 Korok seeds. And because of these new additions, it's not that fun anymore to beat them 100% like all the other Mario and Zelda games.

Yoshi's Crafted World and DKC:TF strike the perfect balance, and are a joy to complete.

I'm looking forward to 100% Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

It depends on my mood to beat the games until finished.
