Hello, firstly I'd just like to say I've been lurking around on the forums for a few days and it's nice to see a community with no toxicity. At least not that I can see, so I thought I'd join in. Hello!

So on to my post, I got a switch a few weeks after launch. I'd just finished horizon zero dawn and nier automata and needed a new game, so I got breath of the wild. It's a very pretty game, and it plays well but I just wasn't into it. I tried a few times but in my personal opinion in just seems like a big beautiful but empty world. So I waited, and I got arms, I had fun for a few days but then I wasn't playing that either, Mario kart I played so much of on Wii u that after getting used to how much nicer it looked I also quickly got bored of that.

So a few months pass and I'm just not playing my switch, Nintendo are releasing some good games but for none of it is of interest to me.

Then I hear about golf story, bought that on launch and loved it, then stardew comes out and I buy that again and it's so much more personal being able to play it anywhere, any time. And now I know what Nintendo switch is to me. It's not about Nintendo games, Not anymore. It's about the Indies, the games made by people like me who grew up on Nintendo and are now giving back the love the experienced.

Now I'm looking at all the indie games I bought on other systems and never played due to big titles distracting me, I'll grab axiom verge soon. Darkest dungeon will be a day one purchase.

And on a final note. I don't dislike Nintendo's own games. I just don't think I'm the target audience any more. But my god, metroid prime 4 can't come soon enough.

I can't wait to play DOOM on the go!

@cadaver138
Try to learn to LOVE Portability of Nintendo Switch.
One thing to remember, Don't expect too much.
Try to LOVE Cute things, even for adult male gamers, there is NOTHING Wrong to Love Cute things such Animal Crossing, Super Mario, Kirby, etc. Throw away All the mindset that "I'm too Cool / too Stupid / too Old to play Kiddie games." So what ? Anyone is deserved for Kiddie games regardless of Age / Gender / Social status / etc.
Don't compare Switch with ps4 / pc.
Nintendo machine is unique, try to embrace their uniqueness.

I will buy Switch on December 2017 while saving my money, I will have more than 14 Switch games during this year until March 2018. Nintendo Switch is that I need for gaming. Also, the other Nintendo family such as NDS, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, Gamecube, GBA are Complimentary of my gaming time. They are like part of Family members.

Anyway, expand your Switch library games. I'm sure you will find another good games for you.

I have a PS4 sat at home and it's not had a look in since I brought my Switch, it's uniqueness is that it's a home console and portable rolled into one. Yes the Switch will not get every game, but for a console that is still in the launch period it has a good software library.

My copy of BotW arrived about 13:30hrs, March 3rd 2017. No Switch. I hated it.

My Switch arrived about an hour later. The longest hour of my life. I opened the box, connected the joy con and turned it on. Then I inserted my BotW game card. Then I loved my Switch.

Simples.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

@Anti-Matter thanks for the reply, I almost exclusively play it portable. I have no problem with cute games and I really hope an animal crossing game gets announced soon.
@MegaTen thanks it's really good to see Nintendo getting support again.
@Farmboy74 I think I will still mostly play ps4 overall but as you said there's something unique about the switch and I definitely want to be playing it more. Being able to carry on gaming on my lunch at work is fantastic, and it almost doesn't bother me when my train home is delayed, almost.
@gcunit I'll have to give Zelda another try. I've not written it off yet. So many people I know love it and I feel like I must of missed something. I actually quite enjoy solving the puzzle shrines.
@Filth_Element I never actually got doom when it came out for other consoles so I might get it for switch

@cadaver138 I don't see the Switch as a power house but if stuff like DOOM is playable on the go I will be one happy commuter! I'm really hoping for Red Dead Redemption to be announced ever since LA Noir was confirmed.

@Anti-Matter lol just cause you like cute kiddie stuff doesn't make it that others have to think that way. Besides I don't agree with you on most points on what a Nintendo game is, not like I disagree with you therefore I want to argue over it. Just that I want to say that Nintendo is not kiddie or cutesy.... besides which if you haven't actually played your games yet because you haven't bought a Switch yet how would you know lol. Sorry not calling you out I just think your opinion is rather strange hahaha

I have a somewhat similar, somewhat opposite experience. To start with the similar; the recent influx of fantastic indie games has transformed the console for me too.

I've been spending the last week or so tucked up in bed with Golf Story and it's been fantastic, and quite unlike any I've experienced on the console before. There's something about being snuggled up with a pleasingly pixelated world to uncover which is utterly unique and spellbinding. The Switch's main gimmick is of course that you can take 'home console game with you 'on the go', but it's been wonderful having some titles that are unashamedly 'portable' in the best sense of the word; ones that just feel right clasped between your hands.

So yeah, the indies have really brought it to life as a portable system. Where we differ is that I've also been really enjoying it at a home console too. I loved the living daylights out of Breath of the Wild, and Splatoon 2 and completely captivated me. I've put a silly amount of time into both titles, and they've really cemented the system in my life as a bona fide home console.

What's exiting to me is the breadth of games coming out that allow it to take on so many roles.

Now if you'll excuse me, back to Golf Story I go!

Maybe I should pick up Stardew Valley on Switch, my Switch is being quite neglected lately and that sounds like a game I could get into. I just don't really find the time to play the thing and when I have the time I just go on my PC. I've just been feeling like I need games I can play in bursts with my friends like CS:GO, TF2, SF5 and Killer Instinct cause of how busy I am, but maybe it's time I took a break from it all for a bit.

Learnt is perfectly valid. As are dreamt and burnt. You'll find them in any English dictionary.

My experience is more like that of @Maxz - I love playing the big AAA titles on the big screen, but tend to play indies when I'm out and about. Games like Shovel Knight look oddly oversized to me on the TV now.

I love many Nintendo games but I don't like Breath of the wild either. I don't even like many other Zelda games too! But I still think that every other Zelda, even the ones I don't like, are better than Breath of the wild.
I don't think that just because you didn't like it, didn't like ARMS and didn't want to play again a game that you already played a lot on WiiU means you don't like Nintendo games anymore. Nintendo makes so many different games just wait a little more and you will see they will prove you they still can make games that you like

I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee

cadaver138

@LuckyLand i think its more of a case of nothing made by the big N has grabbed me yet.
I did enjoy ARMS at first but it just didn't have much lasting appeal for me, I'm still glad I tried it. might pick it up again in the future.
I work in a video game store so I end up picking up games at launch all the time. if I don't get hooked in a few weeks I'll end up trading in while they still have a high value and try the next one, its a bad habit I've tried to get out of by buying more stuff digital, but switch has limited memory so I mostly still buy physical carts

For me this is the first time I've owned a Nintendo console. So I'm finally getting around to playing some franchises I've never really played much of before.
I think Zelda BOTW is probably the best game I've ever played. And cannot wait for the new Mario game.

Mayo for Sam. Year TBC.
