This game is truly great and you get tons of freedom of what to do, where to go and who you want to become. With stunning graphics and smooth fights and cutscenes it’s definitely one of my favourites

Yeah I'm not gonna bother waiting for the Switch version, I just got it for PC. I haven't gotten that far, I need to test it out on the Steam Deck soon, too...but yeah it looks pretty good.

This game looks astounding.
I was going to wait until later this year before investing in a PS5, but this game is probably going to make me jump the gun on that...

Seeing someone literally being brought to tears because because people harass the, over playing a video game, it makes me so sad, and it was sad to see, it really saddens me, it really does.

As for me, I have really been enjoying my time with the game! It’s a great time.

@Snatcher Agreed, I actually quite enjoy 'Girlfriend Reviews'.... loved her take on Returnal, my 2021 GOTY (her critique of the game, and masochists like me who enjoy it, was spot on)

Very sad to see Shelby get such hate. In this case I do think it is possible for people to 'separate the art from the artist' and by enjoying HL it doesn't automatically make the player a bigoted hatemonger.

@CJD87 I actually haven’t seen to many of her stuff, but her I have been meaning too. But then I just hear about a vtuber just the other day also being brought to tears on stream, like what is wrong with people. They have tried to do everything possible to separate this game from Jk and make it bigger then hear and no matter how much they try, they just can’t separate the art from the artist, which it’s fine if you don’t, but now there harassing people, trying to doxx them like how is this better?

I agree, it’s such a sad time, I hope it blows over soon and people just stop attacking YouTubers and streamers, there’s also developers behind this who put years of work into this game, so hopefully the devs too.

@Snatcher I don't watch many VTubers at all, but I must confess I do enjoy her content & videos - she provides quite a unique viewpoint as a "girlfriend of a serious gamer"... who in turn actually becomes a gamer herself. Her and her partner seem to be relatively wholesome, and their videos are genuinely quite funny whilst remaining inoffensive & light-hearted. I believe that pre-stream (Hogwarts Legacy) she also reiterated her heritage as a Jewish woman, and wanting to understand more about the perceived anti-sematic connotations within the game/franchise (Goblins....).

Ultimately I am just sad for the world we live in! I certainly do not agree in any way with the sentiments and viewpoints of JKR, but I am certain that attacking VTubers who choose to stream the game is not at all the answer here. I do not fall within the group/s that are highlighted by JKR's remarks, but I do have friends who are within those categories.

My take is this though - I wonder how many of the 'keyboard warriors' who attacked this Vtubers are genuinely concerned about human rights in relation to minority groups..... or are just doing it 'because'. I believe that the VTuber in question has also had certain online accounts removed (Twitch?) due to an onslaught of individuals labelling the content as 'harmful' (!) which actually can largely impact loss-of-earnings.

Pushing back against hateful agendas and discrimination by..... perpetuating and embodying a hateful agenda and discrimination?! Dissapointing.

TLDR - I don't agree with the views of JKR, but pushing back against this game so aggressively is not the answer. The HP franchise is not going anywhere, and lets also consider there was a whole development team behind this game... which I understand is also fairly decent?! A divisive topic for sure, but I never think the answer is pushing back on hate with more hate.

On a more positive note - Returnal is a rogue like, and probably the most awesome game I've played in recent years! Do you have PS5 or PC? Would highly recommend you give it a whirl. It is like a mix of Hades & Dark Souls, with a quality Alien/Prometheus aesthetic. Badass gameplay, and such an addictive "one more run" game!

@Snatcher I agree that any form of harassment is unacceptable no matter the views. I actually agree 100% with J.K. Rowling and I am not afraid to admit it. The woke culture is too far gone.

Also, the game is extremely successful not because of the drama but because it looks fantastic and the attention to details is astonishing. Avalanche studios have an ok record in making open world games but this time they outdone themselves!

Can you imagine them having the license for just one Pokemon game for 3-4 years? GameFreak will lose their jobs 100%!

@Zuljaras Genuinely a really interesting situation, and appreciate your honesty in regards to your own personal stance.

Whilst we might disagree on JKR, I think there is definitely commonality in our views on the game itself - which (according to critic reviews and player consensus) appears to be pretty great.
It’s easy to forget that a vast development team put a great deal of time, resources and energy into a product that would likely have always been met with a divisive reception (irrespective of its quality, which is deemed to be excellent).

JKR is a much bigger ‘conversation’, but I feel that this entire situation would really benefit from the masses being able to separate the art from the artist.

I won’t be buying the game, but this is based on the franchise not really being “for me”. However, it is likely my kids will want to buy/play the game - and I am totally fine with this, irrespective of my own views on JKR.

I largely feel very sorry for the devs, and hope that this game can break free of any surrounding controversy - and be celebrated as a success of its own merits.

Agreed re GameFreak - what they got away with regarding Scarlet/Violet is criminal (!)
But I saw the sales figures recently, and arguably I suppose they have no reason to address their inadequacies…. For as long as fans keep buying the product, irrespective of quality, GF will never work to break new ground

I wouldn't say the game is amazing. There's a lot of detail and the castle is big, but most of it is just a backdrop. The actual gameplay leaves quite a bit to be desired. The level and skill system are also broken.

I don't think it does well commercially because the game is amazing, it does well because it's a recognisable franchise.

I don't have anything good to say about JKR, but Avalanche already made it clear they don't support her views and ideologies. The backlash from ''both sides'' is a little pathethic though. Most of the talk concercing the game has been revolving around the whole JKR debacle, and I've seen few actual discussions on the game itself which is unfortunate.

@Link-Hero agreed and probably best to focus on the game….

I fear the worst for the Switch version, and will be phenomenal if the devs manage to pull off another third-party ‘miracle port’! (W3, NMS, Nier etc…)

@CJD87 It is truly criminal! I am not talking about the graphical and performance issues though! S/V are soulless, and they do not deserve even 1/10 of the money they got! It is all about the Pokemon brand.

@Octane The HP brand is recognizable indeed but you can compare it to other such games like the Batman Arkham Series and Marvel's Spider-Man. They all build on the IP's success BUT they are done with passion, and you can see that in the little details left there for the fans of the original works.

Early Batman, Spider-Man, Harry Potter games did not have the same success until they are done properly like this.

@CJD87 I feel like you had people with good intentions, not harassing vtubers twitch streamers the like, then you had a few bad eggs but who doesn’t, but then you have the one group of people who get up in the morning type all the hateful nonsense they can, and they don’t even care about said problem in question, it’s just now they get there “I’m a good person” badge, because that’s just what some people are saying, these types of things always get jacked by people like that, and it’s saddening.

I can’t stand the woman ether, but please at least direct it towards her, not the people who have nothing to do with her, at this point your effecting them more then her, but I guess it’s just easier for them to attack innocent people instead of the problem. (Btw I’m not saying that there aren’t some jerks out there saying hateful things and buying the game for hateful reasons, but it’s not everybody and definitely not the ones they attacked so far)

Ok you had me at hades and dark souls! I definitely have to play it when I get my backlog finished, because those games can take a minute.

Oh yeah definitely, And what’s crazy is that just like the ps4, the graphics for this console are just going to get crazier and crazier, and to be fair I feel like the devs never got a I.P to really show there skills.

Gamefreak has really outdone themselves with the quality, im sure the game is fun but the fact that Metroid prime looks better then Pokémon is way too stupid to be real. And of course they would lose there jobs, literally hand that bad boy over to anyone else, heck even give it to next level and we are talking about waaaaaaaay better quality, and maybe not getting straight up lied to about the national dex.

I was a complete potterhead when I was young so I decided to buy this game as a swansong to my love for the franchise, since Rowling has actively soured me on the whole thing. As a queer person, the books used to be one of my favourite worlds to escape into, now it just feels tainted.

However, the game just isn't that good either. It feels like a standard Ubisoft open world affair with HP windowdressing, and it does not capture the magic of the books. It distinctly feels unmagical, from the way it is basically a third person shooter, to its oppressive dark atmosphere that kind of sucks the joy out of world that should feel joyful. The castle is beautifully realised and hopping on a broom and flying around it was a nostalgia rush, but the castle surroundings are same-y and drab tbh.

I would love for an adaptation like this to flesh out Rowling's awful worldbuilding, to contextualize its basic, black and white ethics, but this does nothing of that. I've yet to see a convincing argument why I shouldn't support Ranrok's uprising, since they don't have the same rights as wizards. As a wizard I am part of a system that oppresses multiple intelligent species, yet the games takes for granted that this is a preferable situation I want to uphold.

All in all, this open world hype needs to die down, since this is a game that would have benefitted from a tight story with stunning, magical locales and great level design. I don't get any HP vibe from raiding a drab goblin camp in the same manner time and time again.

Anyway, these are my two cents for when it comes to the Switch. I think it is probably a much more successful game for people who are not/were not all that crazy about HP in the first place.

AHH! With all the reveals we've had this summer.... we STILL havent' seen ANY... ANY!! switch footage of Hogwarts Legacy. Call me skeptical! No, I'm past that at this point actually. I'm just full on spiteful that they haven't been honest. This game can only work on the switch if it's cloudbased. Mainly for the flying and long draw distance parts. Prove me wrong game devs. You liars! We've been waiting a year for any footage (maybe it's not a year yet? Still it's too long, especially since they've had plenty of time to show off xbox and playsation and release it for them, while putting the switch on third class status prioritiy. Just tell us it cloud already, so I can stop looking forward to this game coming to the switch.

I'm just waiting to be proved wrong. I'd really like this game to work on the switch. I just don't believe it's going to happen at this point. They must be struggling. They're just delaying inevitable reality that this will be cloud based, which NOBODY wants.

@WoomyNNYes To be honest I think that after Doom Eternal and The Witcher III EVERYTHING is possible on the Switch IF (BIG, HUGE IF) the porting studio is very good at optimizing for this amazing and underpowered console

And we are getting Batman Arkham Knight as a normal release so that is that!

It is just that companies do not want to invest much in tweaking their games so they could run on a handheld.

@Zuljaras Batman doesn't have the grand draw distances that I've seen in Hogwarts, with the mountains, full of trees, and flying around. I've only see Batman in the trailers, but city buildings do a lot hide vast draw distances that really tax the console. I think Batman also benefits from an art style that more manageable for the switch.

And Witcher, doesn't look that good in my opinion. Hogwarts has much more trees & foliage than Witcher, way more assets to load, and the flying in hogwarts, I think it's faster than you can travel in Witcher, which adds to the difficulty of getting Hogwarts to run on the switch.

Yeah, I really want Hogwarts on Switch.🤣 I've just never seen anything on the switch that comes close to demonstrating that Hogwarts can run on the on the Switch and be acceptable/playable. If you watch the Howarts gameplay when they fly around, its clearly a very power hungry game. Or maybe you're totally right. I just want to see proof. Something.🤣

@WoomyNNYes Well I think it will run but expect it to be really muddy.

And those things you mentioned like draw distance, foliage etc. will cast "cruciatus" on your eyes when looking at the Switch.
