@Gryffin There is case for 2 being the best of the series. 3 onwards started getting a little too cluttered that detracted from the racing (but that in no way means I thought they werem't good. Quite the opposite,) Burnout arrived at the point where I was starting to get exasperated at car companies not wanting their cars damaged in games and it felt like devs had forgotten what arcade racing was. Great series

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

Agreed about its being arguably the best. I played Takedown and Revenge some, but not enough to fairly gauge them. From my initial impressions, though, shoving in Revenge is brilliant, and they line up the AI for you to just plow through them the entire race. I definitely intend on playing Revenge thoroughly some day. Phil Spencer, god bless him, has made the 360 version backwards compatible. Sop maybe I'll get an Xbox One someday.

In a sense. I kinda get in moods of what games I like to play. Like maybe for 1-2 months I only have fun with Zelda games. Then for a few weeks maybe lego games. And so on.

Currently playing: Pokemon Soul Silver, Mario RPG
Enos 1:15

Yeah, I constantly get gaming fatique.
Same happens with TV shows. If I binge like 4-5 45-60 minute episodes in a row, I get really tired in my head.

Good topic. Part of me is bc I am prone to addiction. Thankfully only true addiction was nicotine and to a far lesser extent alcohol. But I find myself looking for the same “high” constantly and I end up just buying a bunch of games and leaving unfulfilled. And the other thing too is also that I am not a very skilled gamer. I wish I was. I probably could be better, but I just don’t want to make the time commitment.

My BurnOut is with ACNH. You have to play to the day if you want specific quests or finish specs things you want to do. I was able to do that during the Pandemic since I had time in-between work but now it's not possible to keep it up.

And this is why I've pretty much sworn off this franchise. I've found that I'm too often playing because I feel I have to, rather than because I want to. I'd be playing Animal Crossing because there was something in the game happening or needing to be done on that specific day, and meanwhile, I'd be wishing I were playing some other game. And it was especially frustrating when I had merely an hour or so on a particular day to play and it "had" to be devoted to Animal Crossing.

I also kind of feel that way about the Tetris 99 and Mario Golf tournaments, but that's just me being obsessive about having to have every costume or skin. I need to get over that too.

I used to work in the gaming industry 20 years ago and most definitely experienced burnout. No one lasts forever and it finally came time to bail on it. Playing for nearly 70 hours a week not counting the time you play at home for "fun" will eventually take its toll. It's not as easy as you may think lol. I'm glad that chapter of my life is over. Now I play what I enjoy.

I listen to a number of video game podcasts with burnout as a frequent call in question. How should I get back into gaming? I’ll never understand this question. Why is the person so desperate to get that feeling back. Do they have no other hobbies and now have a glut of time. Move on to whatever you like to do if you’re burnt out. The end.

I experienced video game burnout almost every day I played during adolescence. Being a zealot in video games, especially in first-person shooters, joining various clans, and stuff like that surely brings you burnout or fatigue. Unfortunately, not all people have the ability to feel when it's time to stop playing and take care of other activities. I've been sticking for hours here at https://totalrust.com and looking for skins and guns I keenly want to achieve. I'm very happy I managed to get through this and cheers to my parents that punished me properly.

I have had two major episodes of burnout regarding video games.

The first was when i was a teenager during the Playstation era; I don't think it was a single game but just all games started to feel derivative and samey. It was actually my purchase of a Neo Geo Pocket that pulled me out that burnout out and my purchase of a Dreamcast that re-solidified my video game hobby.

The second time I got burned out on video games was during the Wii era. There were a lot of reasons but the last straw was random tripping in brawl, as petty as that sounds. It drained any joy I had with that game to have control just randomly taken away from me like that. I tried to pick games back up with the release of Skyward Sword, and while I completed the game I didn't have fun doing so. It wasn't until I played Hotline Miami a couple of years later that I got back into video games.

Definitely.

I go through phases, a few months gaming nearly every day, then a month or two where I only feel like talking about games but not actually playing them. So I'll watch Netflix or something. Then when that gets boring I go back to gaming.

Idk if it's mental stress or what? Gaming does take brain power much more so than passively watching a movie or show. Sometimes you just don't feel up for it.

I still haven't continue my progress of Harvest Moon Animal Parade Wii despite it was 11 years ago the last time I have ever played that game with pirated copy. After owning the original copy, I felt extremely burnout as I remembered the pain of finishing the storyline of Animal Parade with painful 15 - 20 fps rendering on almost every place.

I get burned out a lot these days - I try to get my money's worth but I'll always get burned out before I finish them.

And it's always at this point at the 60-70% mark, so I can't really jump back into it. And of course if I restart it I'll be burned out again, and the novelty will be gone by then.
I think that's why I play a lot less these days, some games I deliberately don't play because I know the commitment will be too much.

Can't pretend it's a serious or important issue but I think it's a shame. I wish I could go back to my childhood and replay the same games for years without any issues.
