Can I purchase GoldenEye by itself or do I have to have an online subscription?

On the switch? It’s exclusive to the nintendo switch online expansion pass.

On the xbox, I hear it's part of Rare Replay. But idk if it can be purchased separately.

@Tasuki I believe it's part of the NSO Expansion Pack. The trailer showed the NSO classics border, but has widescreen support (personally wondering how that works since it's NSO's emulation running it, and most N64 games were 4:3).

@Eel Ah ok, kind of like Donkey Kong 64, it had the option IIRC.

Also, NSO uses Nintendo's own emulation, so that made me curious since it usually sticks with that 4:3 aspect ratio, unless the option was added to expand it. It genuinely makes me curious to see how it's pulled off. I don't have the NSO Expansion so I can't see it for myself. Just have the base NSO subscription.

Edit: to add to what I'm talking about, if you choose "widescreen" in game, it condenses everything within the 4:3 aspect ratio (making models look tall or skinny for lack of a better phrase) or letterboxes it, so it makes me wonder if the setting is outside the game within the NSO N64 menu. Just wanted to clarify.

Even though I do believe Goldeneye had a widescreen option that they're quite possibly tapping into here, it's worth noting that 16:9 can be forced without stretching on many 4:3 only 3D games. People routinely do that via emulation and sometimes even on original hardware.

We've seen Nintendo themselves do this with Super Mario Sunshine on 3D All-Stars. Presumably widescreen yielded visual glitches on Super Mario 64 on that collection (16:9 hacks don't always work perfectly), necessitating limiting that one to 4:3.

@Eel If you have Gamepass you can download it without owning Rare Replay, but then again I believe Rare Replay is on Gamepass as well.

I own Rare Replay regardless so I was able to download it. Played the first level and OMG nostalgia rush. I have to say though it's so much more enjoyable using a modern controller.

@Sunsy Damn that sucks cause I too only have the base NSO. I wanted to get it for my brother since it was one of our favorite multiplayer games growing up. He only owns a Switch so I was hoping I could just buy it for him.
