Are Nintendo looking to boost their quarterly subscriber numbers for investors?

Kind of sad honestly.

The title of this thread makes it sound like a scam.

@Magician It's not necessarily a tactic to gain more subscribers, rather, keep the current ones. Switch had free online back when it launched but it turned into a paid service around this time of the year. Early adopters who have had the subscription since the beginning could potentially run out of their subscription and decide not to resubscribe so they usually have something to entice them to continue. They've previously had games like Mario 35 and Online Expansion come out in October so I wasn't all that surprised when they announced F-Zero 99 in the latest Direct.

Same deal existed last year.

Mines renews at the end of October. Too bad.

Also yes it would be helpful if you made the title less vague.

I would think most of their renewals happen at the end of October because it lines up with when the service first became available. Mines the same. In order to have your renewal line up with early October you would have had to have either been late to get a sub by almost a year or have had your sub cancelled at some point or another

With that said, I'm not toooo annoyed that I'm missing out on this. I got a better deal already. A local retailer here (Coles) was doing 20% of eShop cards this week. I picked up $240AU of credit for $192AU and having to deal with a cashier who gave me a lecture about scammers. Basically a discount on cash. $135 of that (i.e. $108) I've already spent on a voucher for Wonder. Another $109AU ($87) is going to renew my family NSO+ membership

So yes, free money indeed

I’m in the US so no free gold points for me I only use them to take a few $ off eshop purchases which I rarely buy from since I get my games physically most of the time

I got this interestingly enough. I haven't been subscribed for a few years, though I did use a seven day free trial last week to try out F-Zero 99 (meh, still awaiting actual new F-Zero), so I probably have shown up on the mailing list, as I don't remember this being offered previously.

Came across this yesterday, 20% off ain't bad at all so yeah I think I'll take the offer!
