Hello - this is my first post here I hope it won't be the last one!

I am searching for a good fighting game to play with my significant other. This information is important because she is not into such games basically, hence it would be good if it is rather easy. We have only 2 Joy-con's with some additional grips. And I would love to be able to play with her. Price is also one of the factors of my choice but not the most important one. Could you please help me on that?

What I took into consideration so far is:
MK11 - good that there was a movie years ago. She at least heard about that. But on the other hand I really don't like the price on Switch, having in mind that the graphs quality is rather bad. I am not keen to buy it.
Pokken Tournament DX - we both enjoyed the first serie of the anime, but did not watch anything else. Unfortunately, there is very small number of units from the original 150 monsters. And those are the ones that are the most interesting for us. Moreover I really do not like if the game puts that much in online playing, logging in everyday, etc.
Dragon Ball FighterZ - the anime is something that only I know. But the easy controls looks very promising. And enjoyable graphs.
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection - I declined almost immediately, as I dno't believe she would enjoy the oldschool style it comes with...

As of now I am almost convinced to but the DBFZ, but maybe there is something else that I am not aware of that is a similar type of game that I could look into? Please help me I was not looking at Super Smash Bros because I consider this as a different type of game.

FighterZ has extensive tutorials so I reckon if you both took part in that (i.e. both played through the tutorials separately) then you will be golden. Otherwise I'd probably just not reccomend a fighting game because unfortunately they are just very handicapped unless you are both rubbish or both good.

You also have the SNK classics ported by Hamster.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, King of Fighters '98, etc.

@SaszaPL @Magician snk fighting games are a good shout, price wise anyway. If you don't get on with it then you've only wasted 6 and a half quid instead of £45

@rhyeee3216 I am under impression that you did not read my post
@ReaderRagfish which Street Fighter would you recommend?
@gimmi_c thank you for the tutorial info, I think we are looking more into something that we can take out of the box and play, fairly ok. I am not looking into any campaign or story modes...
@Magician I think I will check those to see how my lady reacts to fighting games.
@Anti-Matter despite your post being kind of... short, I find your suggestion more interesting than I thought it would be. I've heard of it, but never really checked it in more detail. Looks nice. The biggest issue I see is that we have only one set of Joy Cons.

Thank you, I have some research to do now. If you have any other ideas or would like to share your pros and cons of any above, I will be happy to read them.

@SaszaPL good stuff, I think you can button mash it for sure but doing the tutorials will level the playing field so to speak

So, after two months I have some updates for you. Maybe someone in future will be able to use it for his or her benefit.

We are playing mostly the Mario kart 8 and a tennis game that is not very complicated and even less exciting.
In terms of fighting games I have started with Ultimate Street Fighter II Final Challengers, and that was a spectacular miss. My Lady did agree to play it couple of times but not found any pleasure with that title. Moreover it looked like she hated the whole genre.
Some time passed, I bought the Dragon Ball FighterZ on the sale. Kind of slow playing, I lost first two games. Now she is excited about the game, I am going to show her the manuals in game and hope that we will be able to play on a higher level

Ran across one of your old posts about fighting games, and it occurred to me you might have some insight to offer.

I'm exploring d-pad options on Switch, and just got a modded joycon with eXtremeRate d-pad. For not having a pivot, it's actually really good. I can do hadokens and shoryukens 100% flawless every time. I can even do the half circle fireball 85% of the time, once I learned to move my thumb around the circumference of the dpad rather than tilting like you would on a pivot d-pad.

But there's no denying the Hori d-pad joycon is the best. 100% success rate for every move, every single time. No wireless, no gyro and no rumble though. And the rubber minus button sucks. That said, rumble and Gyro aren't an issue because games default to right joycon for gyro, and rumble reverberates from the right joycon into the left hand so, even though it feels slightly imbalanced, it's hard to notice. The real issue is lack of wireless so no tabletop.

Then there's docked, which I've found the Pro Controller dpad to work well enough, even though it's not quite as good as Hori dpad. I also have a Hori Fight Stick- the Pro V Hayabusa.

But as someone who plays alot of fighters, what is the best approach you recommend for handheld and docked? Is there some 3rd party controller I'm unaware of that doesn't skimp on features?

@JaxonH I would rather not hijack this user’s thread but let me think on it and answer you in the fight game thread (I just wrote you a long text wall that got too much into stick vs pad theory and didn’t really answer your question so I deleted it.) in a day or two. I just took an exam and I’m a little space cadet right now.

Ultra SF2: Final Challengers.

It’s SSF2T, redrawn by a comic book company. Many older FGC heads didn’t like the new art style. I thought it was a good looking upgrade to an old classic.

Also:

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary.
While it’s true this is just an arcade rom dump , with no additional features and modes that typically accompany a home port of arcade games, it still includes the three best IMHO street Fighter games:

Third Strike, 2nd Impact, and ALPHA3

Maybe next year ir so will see some more classic Capcom FG relaunched on switch with better netcode, like Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK 2, or Vampire Savior.

@UncleTendo
I love Ultra Street Fighter II. It's my favorite fighting game of all time. Probably because I grew up playing Street Fighter II, and the art style is incredible. Collection is a must too, though.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax releases in a few months, also. I haven't played it, but their spinoffs are usually top notch. Persona 4 Dancing All Night is the best rhythm game I've ever played, so I have high hopes for their Fighter.

Capcom does need to bring over more though. At least Ultra Street Fighter IV, and Marvel vs Capcom 3.
