Price is a little higher than I'd like, but still, Etrian Odyssey on Switch! And these look to be the classic originals, instead of the Untold remakes that added unnecessary elements like story, characters, etc.
These are awesome games. Some of the best dungeon-crawlers ever made. Anyone with even a slightly adventurous streak in their soul deserves to give this series a go.
I tried IV on the 3DS when Atlus had it on sale for cheap and liked it, though I never finished it. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on these. Especially since the original DS titles are pretty expensive these days. Particularly III since it allegedly had a limited print run.
I’m a little disappointed that they’re based directly on the original DS games, instead of the better-looking 3DS remakes.
Even the music seems to be taken from the DS games, if the trailer is anything to go by.
I like the Untold games, but with completely overhalled dungeons, different foe patterns, modified skill trees, mechanics like grimoires, and more... they are functionally entirely different games from their DS counterparts.
I hope they get ported eventually as well, but I'm not a fan of the idea they should "replace" the DS games.
I suppose that if these sell well there's a chance for IV and V to be released as well? I might get one of these just to show my support, although I don't know which one.
I’m just overjoyed I can buy 3 for a reasonable-ish price and try the original 1 and 2 (played untold but those are quite a different experience). Day one for me.
I keep buying fighting games for some reason, even though I barely got anyone to play against.
@Magician : English won’t be included. The Japanese eShop pages only list Japanese as the supported language, which makes the release all the more ridiculous given how small (and frankly ugly) the games are.
I’m also a little surprised by how absurdly overpriced the physical release is, particularly as this looks like a low effort job and the entire trilogy is only 2.2GB.
I wouldn’t rule out a boutique publisher stepping in with a physical release of the English version, but I can’t see Atlus agreeing to an all-in-one release for US$60 given the pricing of the Japanese release. But three separate physical releases by LRG wouldn’t be ideal either.
I've just checked Nintendo Japan's website. The eShop releases of these games only have Japanese, so I'm assuming the retail will be the same (they are almost always identical). One interesting note, the page for Etrian Odyssey III confirms local and online play of 2 - 5 players. https://store-jp.nintendo.com/list/software/70010000043683.html
The Asian physical on Play-Asia might include English, rather than the Japanese physical.
I wouldn't hold my breath. In cases where there are only Japanese and Asian physical releases, the Asian release is typically a repackaging of the Japanese cartridge.
However, we might get lucky and the Asian build will include Japanese and/or Chinese, and possibly English, but this remains to be confirmed, and I can't say that I am particularly optimistic. Here's hoping though!
Porygon did nothing wrong.

I'm sure LRG is salivating at the thought of doing three separate limited run physicals for Etrian Odyssey. Has Atlus ever worked with them, though?
It'd be nice to see for the physical connoisseurs among us. I already own physicals for the DS and 3DS versions of these games, though, so I'm not too worried about it myself.
"There is one new song, only for “Etrian Odyssey III” this time. There was no background music on the 6th stratum encounters, so we took the opportunity of remastering to create an additional song."
Kinda cool. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like.
