When you archive your Switch games to free up memory, do your save files for that game, if any, get archived as well, or do you have to play the game all over again when you download it to play again?

The archive function deletes everything except for the save file.

@skywake But then why when I go to archive games, for example, if the game I'm archiving is downloaded to Switch memory and save file for it is on my SD card, the memory that it shows that gets freed up gets freed up from both. I am then assuming then what is then shown what is removed from my SD card is the save file for that game. If that's so, do they then get archived along with the game on Nintendo's servers? Just wondering because I've seen several videos on YouTube that Switch can't permanently save your save files to their servers like Xbox and Playstation can and do. If THAT'S the case then when I archive a game and if the save file doesn't get saved, then you have to start the game all over again, right? Then what is the point in archiving if you can't do that with the saves?

@Stoner_James
The save game gets stored on the system itself not the SD card and it's usually so small a file you wouldn't notice it in that chart anyways. Archiving the game deletes the game, patch data and any DLC all of which can be redownloaded from the server. Your save is not removed when you archive a game.

@skywake Follow-up question. If you have a physical copy of a game and at some point switch (no pun intended) to a digital copy, or vice-versa, your old save should be perfectly accessible in the digital copy, so long as you’re using the same console. Is that correct?

@Ryzaerian Provided the physical and digital copies are from the same region, yes.
