@JaxonH One more tip came into mind: if you decide to have an aerotheurge, i.e. an air magician, in your team (which is worth it for the aforementioned teleportation spell alone), be sure to also acquire a spell called Tornado when you can. There's one super-irritating and deadly thing found in many places later in the game (I won't say anything else for spoiler reasons), and this spell pretty much the only thing you can use against it. So you'll be thanking yourself if you have Tornado available once you come across this thing. You won't find or need the spell on the opening island though, it'll be available later.
@Polvasti How are Sebille and Red Prince as companions? I was originally gonna go with Red Prince, Sebille and Fane in my party (and my character is Ifan) but now I'm thinking I should kick someone for Lohse after reading your post.
@Polvasti
I'm Ifan, a necromancer, and I have Red Prince, Fane and Lohse. I just chose their recommended classes though. Isn't Lohse a magician with air magic though? If not how would you recommend I chance the party to account for later on?
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)

Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
@JaxonH Yeah, Lohse starts with some air magic, but this game isn't the sort of RPG where your characters' abilities are defined by their class or something; instead you can spend your XP on any abilities whatsoever, so anyone can become an air magician if you want. It's worth giving each of your party members two or three main abilities they specialise in, since high ability levels give you nice bonuses, plus most spells and skills require a certain ability level to use them. But it wouldn't be too scared of experimenting with different builds for your characters, because fairly early in the game you'll find something that allows to respec your character, as many times as you want and with no cost. So you can always change them if you don't like their current build.
@TheExile285 I've only played through the game once, and I didn't have the Red Prince in my party then, so I don't really know that much about him as a companion. I'm definitely gonna try him now that I'm on my second playthrough.
As for Sebille, she's my favourite character in the game; on my first playthrough I had her in my party and romanced her, this time I'm playing as her. She's one of those "cynical, badass fighter hardened by her traumatic experiences, but with a hidden soft side she only shows to the select few people she can trust" type of characters, but I think she and her story arc are written in a fairly unique, non-clichéd way. So if that kind of archetype appeals to you, I'd definitely consider adding her to the party.
Sebille's elvish ability where she can eat the flesh of a dead person and gain their memories also gives you some unique lore and story content, since she's the only elf you can have in your party. There is another way of temporarily transforming anyone in your party into an elf though, so you can use this flesh-eating ability with another character, but it takes a bit of effort.
